Flash player will not work,

I have downloaded the new flashplayer and I have gone to add on's, which shows flashplayer as enabled, yet it will not work on my computer.  Everything that I try to run that uses flashplayer say that it is not on my computer.  Can someone please tell me how to fix this.  I have even tried un-installing, restarting the computer and installing again and it still does not work.
