SSD & HDD Recommendations Mac running CC

    Ollie Needham

      Hi All,

I've continued my research since my last post, and made several alterations.

I'm looking into signing up to the CC system, as it's a more cost effective solution.

Out of the following disk config. options, which is the most appropriate?

      (I run a 2008 Mac Pro 2x 2.8GHz Intel Core Xeon w/ 8GB RAM - upgrading to 16GB RAM w/ new OS)

      OPTION 1:

      Disk 1: 120GB SSD w/ OS & Software

      Disk 2: 2TB HDD w/ Projects & Media

Disk 3: HDD w/ Media Cache

      Disk 4: HDD w/ Previews & Exports

      w/ Disks 3 & 4 RAID0

      ----------------

      OPTION 2:

      Disk 1: 120GB SSD w/ OS & Software

Disk 2: 250GB SSD w/ Media Cache, Media Cache Files, Previews & Exports

      Disk 3: HDD w/ Projects & Media

      Disk 4: HDD w/ Projects & Media

      w/ Disks 3 & 4 RAID0 (w/ regular back ups)

      Questions:

OPTION 1 keeps the media on a 'stable' single disk, whilst the RAID config. for the Media Cache & Previews allows for quick access - HOWEVER, is the single disk setup for the media going to be quick enough to handle multiple HD streams in a sequence?

OPTION 2 keeps the Media Cache, Media Cache Files, Previews & Exports on an SSD for quick access, but puts the Media on a RAID0 setup for quick access for multiple HD streams - HOWEVER, is an SSD really required for this purpose, or is a single HDD OK?

Does anyone have any recommendations as to which brand SSD/HDDs to use?

I have read through the Tweakers documents, however I feel I need some input from the community to help with this decision.

      Many Thanks,

      Ollie
