The only case where I've run across this behavior is when the duration of captions is very short and they're butted right up against each other--or at least very close together. If your case does not fall into that camp, then please provide some specifics, namely the ver batim caption strings and their In/Out times.
I'm not the best person to explain why things go awry when captions are short and in quick succession, but I know it has to do with the way that the text is rendered. As I understand it, two characters are painted per frame. So a caption that's 20 characters in length would require 10 frames in duration--plus, in some cases, 2 frames or more to process things like formatting and positioning.

Suddenly I get all kinds of buggy stuff.
As you see, the next line bleeds on. It also for some reason has lost the black background.
We really could use this feature if I can work this out.
