Could you answer a few questions to help us better understand the issue:
- If you are trying to open the files by double clicking them, do they give any error??
- Have you tried to drag a file into indeisgn, if yes what happends when you do that??
- Is there any error message that you get??
- Also if you create a new files in InDesign CC does it show up as grey like the cs4 files or do they open fine??
I've tried opening by double clicking, opening from the application's menu and dragging the file in. I don't get any errors. Nothing happens at all. New files do not show up gray and they open fine.
Also, I just tried making a blank document and dragging an older file in. It said "import failed."
What OS are you on?? Could you share one test file with me??
10.8.5. I think I may have figured it out. It seems that there is just a group of files that have been corrupted. I just purchased a new iMac and set it up last week. I used the migration tools to set it up from my old mac then I signed up for the cloud. The majority of files I need are opening fine. I should have looked further to try opening more documents. Thank you for your help.
You cannot install Adobe software reliably with the MIgration Assistant. You may run into other problems in the future. Migration Assistant cannot handle all the special files in different locations used by Adobe software.
You may have to uninstall InDesign, run the Adobe Cleaner tool and reinstall from your original media or a backup.
