1. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Mark Mapes Oct 24, 2013 1:40 PM (in response to ExodusCry3)The first thing I'd check is whether a process is hung. Start by closing Premiere Pro, AME, and any other Adobe video apps that are running. Then check Task Manager (Win) or Activity Monitor (Mac) and kill any instances of PProHeadless, dynamiclinkmanager, or Adobe QT32 Server that remain. Note that dynamiclinkmanager routinely continues running for 20-30 seconds after quitting all Adobe programs that use DynamicLink.
Now try relaunching Premiere and exporting to AME. Any better luck?

Oh and I'm on OSX by the way.

3. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
beolux Nov 4, 2013 11:57 AM (in response to ExodusCry3)I'm having a similar issue.
Essentially ever since upgrading my OS to Mavericks, Premiere CC can successfully "export", but it cannot "queue" into Media Encoder CC.
All that happens is Media Encoder launches and then it just sits there with a "Not currently encoding" status.
I've restarted, re-downloaded, and verified this issue on two separate machines running two seperate CC accounts.
This is becoming increasingly frustrating as it hinders our editing time, We used to be able to add sequences to the queue and keep on editing but now we must wait for each individual sequence to render.
Any recommendations?

4. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
TeeKayCC Nov 4, 2013 12:44 PM (in response to ExodusCry3)The only thing I can add to this conversation is that I haven't had any problems like this on my Windows 7 machine, so I'd guess it's probably a Mac specific issue... (unless other Windows users can duplicate the issue)
Like Mark said, killing dynamiclinkmanager does the trick for me, on the rare occurance that "handshakes" from one Adobe application to another aren't happening. Sorry it's not working for you, and hopefully someone can help you out more.
Question: If you guys launch Adobe Media Encoder and try to do a File > Add Premiere Pro Sequence... does that work? Or is that also not working?

Kevin Monahan Nov 4, 2013 12:59 PM (in response to ExodusCry3)Hi ExodusCry3,
Are you using OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)? Are you trying to export via QuickTime, or another format?
Thanks,
Kevin

6. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
beolux Nov 4, 2013 1:08 PM (in response to TeeKayCC)TeekayCC,
Thanks for the info, that was my guess - a native issue with Mac's newest OS.
I tried the "Add Premiere Pro Sequence..." and it doesn't add a sequence, just sits there saying "Not currently encoding."
I've checked activity monitor and so far I have not observed "dynamiclinkmanager" in the task list.
I do see Core Sync, Creative Cloud, and Adobe CEF Helper
Kevin Monahan,
I know your question is directed at ExodusCry3, but I will add that I am trying to export via h.264 (specifically the youtube 720p 23.976 format) with the maximum render quality box checked.

7. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Mark Mapes Nov 4, 2013 2:24 PM (in response to beolux)The AME team is investigating similar reports from other customers. While they have not yet nailed down the cause, the workaround they're recommending is to clear your AME preferences. The easiest way to do this is to hold Shift while launching AME.

beolux Nov 4, 2013 2:29 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)Mark Mapes,
This (holding down shift while AME launched) worked for me, thanks Mark Mapes.
I'm looking forward to the permanent fix!

9. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Larry Asbell Nov 4, 2013 6:27 PM (in response to beolux)I've seen the same problem here (OS X 10.8.5) and found I could clear the jam by changing the setting for Renderer: MPE Software Only, to MPE GPU (OpenCL). Then the export AME Queue worked and it still worked when I changed it back.

wade_caldwell Dec 9, 2013 7:19 PM (in response to ExodusCry3)Same problem - Mac OS 10.8.5, latest version of all CC apps. Clearing the AME cash did not help. I ended up having to track and export each of my files manually, which was not a lot of fun. Hopefully, the permanent fix comes soon and I have more projects after this trade show. Worked fine in late October, when I had another huge batch of files to export.

WHMB TV Mar 5, 2014 1:33 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)Has there been any progress on this issue. I am having the same problem and tried all the recommended solutions in this post to no avail. A similar problem occurs for me when I try Analyzing a clip for speech recognition, AME opens but nothing gets added to the queue and nothing else happens.
Thanks

Mark Mapes Mar 25, 2014 10:10 PM (in response to oatbean)Exactly what version of AME is installed, WHMB TV & oatbean? Please report the precise version number as reported in the About box, e.g., 7.2.0.043.

15. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
wade_caldwell Mar 26, 2014 9:06 AM (in response to Mark Mapes)My AME version number is 7.2.0.43 as found using Get Info on .app file. I can't get the application to launch fully as it hangs on one of the bundles, even after holding shift down. Takes somwhere between 3 and 5 minutes from double-clicking the app to when it hangs and stops progressing through the launch sequence.

19. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Mark Mapes Apr 8, 2014 11:19 AM (in response to oatbean)This is a case where I suspect we're not dealing with a single root problem that's biting all of you. The symptom is the same--or at least similar--but I'd wager there are at least two different causes. Especially in your case, Rob, because you're the only one on CS6.
On the CC front, one scenario that can result in this problem is that certain components, especially DynamicLink, do not match between PPRO and AME. (Or so I've heard; I'm not directly involved with investigations of these issues.) So for those of you on CC, I recommend applying the update to both Premiere and AME.
You're on the latest versions of CS6, Rob, so I'm not sure what to recommend. Have you tried either dragging your sequence(s) to AME or using AME's Import command rather than PPRO's Export?

20. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
oatbean Apr 8, 2014 11:41 AM (in response to Mark Mapes)I just tried dragging my sequence into AME and it took about 20 seconds to appear in the queue list then all of the controls were unusably sluggish (i.e. it took over 10 seconds for any link or pullown to activate it even took over 10 seconds for the "cancel" button to work. Could that provide a clue?). Is there anything I could uninstal, etc. to get this feature back?
Thanks,
Rob

21. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
mcnallyj Apr 14, 2014 7:33 AM (in response to oatbean)I'm experiencing similar issues but with multiple exports. I was trying to send three timelines all the queue with the result being Premiere hanging and having to Force Quit. After that even a single export via the queue would result in a hang. It would allow me to export directly out of Premiere however.
I cleared the cache and restarted AME with shift held to clear preferences. That did allow a single timeline to go out through the queue. However when I try to send multiple timelines out I still get a hang on Premiere.
I'm on OS 10.9.2, AME 7.2.2.29, Premiere 7.2.2
Anyone else having this issue with multiple exports to the queue?

Punker May 7, 2014 11:51 AM (in response to mcnallyj)Yes mcnallyj, that is exactly my issue to the letter. I have the same versions of each program as you also.
Here are my system specs FWIW.
Mac Pro Mid-2012
3.33 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
32GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC RAM
Dual ATI-Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB Graphics Cards
OS 10.9.2
Thank you. Let's all send bug reports, shall we?

24. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Punker May 19, 2014 5:49 PM (in response to yimbo escarrega)Must be my system because it still crashes. Is all your software up to date
too?
I reset prefs in Media Encoder both with and without Premiere also open but
to no avail. I tried sending a queue to Media Encoder from Premiere with ME
already open, AND using a stock preset (just in case) but it crashes that
way too.

27. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Punker May 23, 2014 10:35 AM (in response to Mark Mapes)Disabling native sequence import is the opposite of what we want to do
(unless it means something else I don't know of). I believe that's the
problem we're having. We WANT to send our sequences to AME but it freezes
Premiere.
I went ahead and tried it anyway and Premiere just hung.
-
28. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Mark Mapes May 23, 2014 11:37 AM (in response to Punker)With that preference disabled, the exported sequence will still be queued to AME. The difference is whether the sequence is read by a special instance of Premiere (PProHeadless) or natively by AME. Native sequence import was added to AME in the 7.1 release; prior to that, PProHeadless was always used.
Anyway, thanks for testing that variable.
Next thing worth trying: if GPU acceleration is enabled in Premiere Pro, try disabling it: File>Project Settings>General, set Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine Software Only.

Punker May 23, 2014 12:00 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)"Native sequence import was added to AME in the 7.1 release; prior to that,

understand
Unfortunately my Renderer was already set to Software Only so that can't be
it, darn it.

30. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
stevefal May 24, 2014 10:06 PM (in response to ExodusCry3)Same issue for me - Mavericks, 7.2.2 - queuing to AME hangs on "Preparing data for export". Tried shift-launch AME, no dice.
I just upgraded to CC with trepidation on financial grounds. Now this is the second considerable bug I've hit in PPro CC, that was working fine in CS6.
This rapid release model sounds good on paper, but not if the software doesn't get well tested before shipping. This plus disappointing CDNG support and clunky Speedgrade integration (I basically gave up on it) has me this close to getting a refund. The key benefits of CC for me are a wash, and now I have two new issues. I'm paying monthly for a regression.

31. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
jkbucks Jun 20, 2014 11:54 AM (in response to ExodusCry3)I am having the same issue, among others, after updating to CC 2014 yesterday.
Quad Core Xeon 3.2 GHz,
16GB 1333MHZ ECC Ram
Nvidia K2000
Windows 7.
Unchecking import natively and holding shift while launching (if that even applies to Win7!?!) seemed to get it working, but the resulting render had media offline graphics present, even though the media is not offline. It's not even dynamically linked, which I know can cause some issues. Plain old AVCHD and .MOV footage.
My renders are taking about 25%-30% longer as well, with seemingly all variables the same.

32. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Punker Jun 20, 2014 12:51 PM (in response to jkbucks)I hadn't thought of it because I've been used to the workaround (simply
dragging the sequences from Premiere into Media Encoder). But after reading
your post I decided to check again and unfortunately still have the same
issue.

tbruegg Jul 11, 2014 7:43 AM (in response to jkbucks)I have the exact same problem on win7 with latest build CC 2014. Tryed the preferences and Shift thing, did not work for me. This is very anoying, the only workaround that worked for me is to drag and drop the seqences from the PP Bin to AME..... not cool.

Zephski Jul 18, 2014 3:32 PM (in response to wickygallone@gmail.com)I'm a neophyte with these programs but recall having queuing ability before updating to the 2014 version. I need to be able to select multiple I/O sections of a timeline and generate a queue so I don't spend ages watching a progress bar. Would there be a way to do a workaround for this? Thank you.

37. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Zephski Jul 19, 2014 3:56 PM (in response to wickygallone@gmail.com)I have a new iMac with 10.9.4 and each time I go to Export in Pr CC I get a message which tells me that there is a newer version of AME available but I have the latest version installed. I've even tried to uninstall AME and reinstall but this doesn't solve this. I am wondering if this inability to recognize the latest version of AME may have something to do with the queueing as well. Any thoughts?

BarnDoorCreative Jul 23, 2014 3:38 PM (in response to tbruegg)I'm having the same problem except dragging individual sequences still won't open in AME.
I'm using CC 2014 on a PC and have tried all the work arounds mentioned here to no avail. Any suggestions?

39. Re: Media Encoder won't queue
Mark Mapes Jul 24, 2014 11:34 PM (in response to BarnDoorCreative)@Zephski: Please post a screenshot of the About boxes for Premiere Pro and AME.
@BarnDoorCreative: I suspect that either a process is hung or something's awry with your project. Here's what I recommend:
- reboot your computer.
- launch Premiere, create a new project, create a Bars & Tone and add it to a sequence, and save.
- with the sequence selected, File>Export>Media, then Queue.
- If the sequence successfully queues to AME, then open your real project and try exporting a sequence.
@wickygallone: Something's awry that you have to reopen the Encoding panel every time AME launches. Assuming AME closes normally, the current state of workspace should be saved to the AppPrefs. Try this: launch AME, go Window>Workspace>Reset Default Workspace, close and relaunch AME. If the Encoding panel is MIA again, track down the file AMEPrefs.xml and checking the Date Modified. If it was saved within the last few minutes, I'd delete it and then launch AME. If it's older, then something is interfering with the prefs being saved, which we should troubleshoot before you take any action. So report back with the platform you're on and the exact version of AME you're running.
