I just bought a new computer and DUH it doesn't have firewire. No pci ports to add one. I saw a firewire to usb adapter for 30 bucks. I plug my camera via firewire into the adapter and plug it into my computer via USB. Question: will Adobe software, ie premiere pro, recongnize my device?
PC, windows 8, Creative Cloud version.
Premiere only captures via firewire.
Such devices are a waste of money even if it did work you probably end up with out of sync footage.
Capture with the old one and transfer to the new one or buy a Grass Valley converter.
If you have an tape camera with analog-in that also should work.

http://www.grassvalley.com/products/converters require a firewire port
"ideal for capturing analog video into FireWire (IEEE 1394a)-equipped notebook and desktop editing computers"
Joeboyd1 - do not buy a Grass Valley converter... it will not connect to your computer
Ah just forget what I said. Wrong planet, wrong thread.
