1. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 11:28 AM (in response to jwdave)Perhaps you cuold tell us the exact details of the situation that made you synchronize everything. What do you see on the screen? Is there an error message?
I will point out that there is no situation I can think of that "Lightroom decided that all photos in my library need to be synchronised". I can't even think of a situation where a synchronization of a single folder is forced by Lightroom or otherwise mandatory, as synchronization is always done because the users chooses to synchronize, not because it must be done.

2. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 11:40 AM (in response to dj_paige)It is not forced as such, if I right click on a folder and select 'synchronize' it tells me that, for example if the folder has 500 images, that 500 images need deleting and 500 images need importing. I would normally do this because if I add new pictures to the folder, let's say 10, I want to update LR but instead of syncing 10 it want to re sync the all the images. Then my collections think that the images they reference have been removed and so they are removed from the collections. Hope that is clearer?

3. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 11:43 AM (in response to jwdave)Before you do this synchronization, are there question mark icons or exclamation point icons on your photos?

4. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 11:46 AM (in response to dj_paige)No, I am familiar with this if an image has moved or something but no it appears to thing the links are valid.

5. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 12:09 PM (in response to jwdave)Well, maybe someone else can explain what happened, but I can't. Until then, if I were you, I wouldn't synchronize, I would import the new photos only.

6. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 12:12 PM (in response to dj_paige)Ok thanks for your help, I will try and contact adobe support and see if they can help.. The problem with just importing the 'new' images is that you have remember which new images you need to import! But thanks again.

7. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 12:14 PM (in response to jwdave)Well, actually, that's not true. Lightroom should recognize the photos that already have been imported, and so the import dialog box should grey out those images, leaving only the new images "un-grey" and active for import.

8. Re: Sync and catalog problem
THG_BO Oct 27, 2013 12:29 PM (in response to jwdave)HI,
it may be helpfull if you can create some screenshots of your error and the gridview of a folder that should be synchonized.
DO you have any background photo programms running?
WHich os an lr version?
CAn you please explain how you import your images?

9. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 12:32 PM (in response to dj_paige)But that is exactly the issue, it doesn't just see the new images for import, it thinks they all need re importing!

10. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 12:35 PM (in response to jwdave)Since you say Import shows that all photos need to be imported, then there is something seriously wrong here. I still suspect that Lightroom has lost the links to your existing photos ... can you take one of these existing photos and open it in develop module and actually perform some editing on it (I don't mean could you do this in the past, I mean do it now with this problem still active). Does the editor work as expected, or do you get an error?

11. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 12:39 PM (in response to dj_paige)I can open the Deleon module no problem even on images it says should be re synced! It works just fine, I will post a screenshot shortly.

12. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 12:49 PM (in response to THG_BO)attached is a scrrenshot of the sync option, 622 images is the total content of the folder fujifilm x100s. I have not ammended any of these images, they are exactly as downloaded from the camera. The way I work is that I download the images from my camer into a folder that identifies the camera into a folder by date, I then create collections. There are no background programs that I consider significant, obviously things like safari, email, mackeeper, finder and maybe something else from time to time. I often would open Bridge and / or photoshop whilst LR is open.
When I import my images I just add a new folder in my catalog and select the folder in the camera/date that I have added.

jwdave Oct 27, 2013 12:51 PM (in response to jwdave)must check my typing, I can open the DEVELOP module... sorry

15. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 12:53 PM (in response to jwdave)In Lightroom, select one of these photos, and right-clcik and choose "Go To Folder In Library". On the left, in the folder panel, the folder where LR thinks the photo exists will be highlighted (you might have to scroll up or down to find this folder if the list of folders is very long). Is this the exact EXACT drive, path and folder name that you are now trying to import from? EXACT, letter for letter?

17. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 1:08 PM (in response to jwdave)Try this
Shut down Lightroom, delete your preferences file, reopen LR and see if the problem is gone.

18. Re: Sync and catalog problem
THG_BO Oct 27, 2013 1:10 PM (in response to jwdave)Hi,
your images are in a dropbox folder? There are regular errors with dropbox and LR in this forum. Move the images out of the dropbox folder.Dropbox touches these files and LR thinks things changed...

19. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 1:14 PM (in response to dj_paige)Sadly no difference!

20. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 1:16 PM (in response to THG_BO)Really! If that is the case I can do this but can I relink them or will I have start my collections all over again, he says disparingly...?
-
21. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 1:21 PM (in response to jwdave)If you move the photos from inside LR, no re-linking is needed, nor is there any loss of collections (or other metadata)
If you move the photos outside of LR, then you need to re-link via http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm
and then all of your collections and metadata remain intact

22. Re: Sync and catalog problem
jwdave Oct 27, 2013 1:25 PM (in response to dj_paige)I will try this and pray! Do you think this will work even tough LR thinks the link is already broken?
-
23. Re: Sync and catalog problem
dj_paige Oct 27, 2013 1:45 PM (in response to jwdave)In every answer to my questions, it seems that the link is not broken. The problem is something else, possibly Dropbox. So, yes this move (done properly) will not lose your links, but I'm guessing if it will fix the problem.

24. Re: Sync and catalog problem
THG_BO Oct 27, 2013 1:54 PM (in response to jwdave)Hi,
you can do the following additional thing:
Make a backup of your current catalog befor you resync/move data (close LR, copy the lrcat file to some other destination).
