By "it shuts down" do you mean ONLY PreElements, or your entire computer?

If only PreElements, what error message do you receive?

If your entire computer, read Bill Hunt on BSOD http://forums.adobe.com/thread/772169

Just the program, is says that premiere elements is shutting down, looking

for a cause of the error and then it just shuts down.  It can trim video

fine with no problems but when I try to add text to a clip that's when it

            shuts down.

Please go to the FAQ link I posted in reply #1 and answer all of the questions

              >when I try to add text to a clip

What font... and what happens if you use a different font?

Let us go through a routine drill....

Premiere Elements 9...are you running the program as the 9.0.1 Update?

Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on the computer with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?

Are you running the program as Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Priviledges?

What is your computer operating system and what do its resources look like?

What are the properties of the source media that you import to the Timeline? How many of them are on that Timeline when you go to create your titles and the problems begin? What did you set as the project preset based on the properties of those source media?

Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card. If it is, then delete the BadDrivers.txt file whose path in Windows 7 or 8 64 bit is

                Local Disc C

                Program Data

                Adobe

                Premiere Elements

                9.0

and in the 9.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete.

Make sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the whole path.

If that does not work, then try deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file found in the Windows 7 or 8 64 bit path

                Local Disc C

                Users

                Owner

                AppData

                Roaming

                Adobe

                Premiere Elements

                9.0

and in the 9.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Same comment about Folder Option.

Do you have an installation disc or files for Premiere Elements 9 in case we get to deactivation, uninstall, run of ccleaner, reinstall?

Please review and then we will see where we are troublehooting wise.

                Thanks.
