Bill Gehrke Nov 3, 2013 7:29 AM (in response to EditinGFilMSchooL)Three problems with it with just a quick review
- It does not meet Premiere's minimum screen resoution requirements
- It does not have a GPU that will allow GPU acceleration, look for an nVidia GPU.
- It has a single 5400 rpm drive

John T Smith Nov 3, 2013 8:12 AM (in response to EditinGFilMSchooL)>edit basic "Home" movies
What KIND of home movies... in other words, what brand/model camera and type of video?
What you buy is (well, should be) determined by what you want to edit
SD (Standard Definition) from an old tape based camera is a LOT easier to edit than "modern" HD (High Definition) video from a digital camera
For HD video editing (you really need to post your brand/model camera) you need...
Intel i7 CPU
MINimum 8gig ram... 16Gig is better
nVidia GPU with 1Gig video ram
7200rpm drive for Windows and programs and a 2nd 7200rpm drive for projects and video files
OR
SSD drive for Windows and programs and a 2nd 7200rpm drive for projects and video files
OR
SSD-or-7200rpm drive for Windows and programs and a FAST external drive for projects and video files
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1117813 - http://ppbm7.com/index.php/tweakers-page/84-disk-setup
ONE possibility is this $47 USB3 dock with fan http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SuperSpeed-Docking-Station-Cooling/dp/B0055PL2YI

EditinGFilMSchooL Nov 3, 2013 8:26 AM (in response to John T Smith)Right now - we are editing SD, but soon our Film making class is moving to HD.
What about taking the ASUS X550CC-XX109H + 500GB USB 3 external hard drive that i already have? Is it good for HD?

John T Smith Nov 3, 2013 8:34 AM (in response to EditinGFilMSchooL)http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X550CC/#specifications
Use these options
Intel® Core™ i7 3537U Processor
MINIMUM 8Gig (page does not say) with 16Gig ram being better
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 720M - does it have at least 1Gig of video ram?
500GB 7200 - plenty for Windows and programs
1 x USB 3.0 port(s) - for your external
Display 15.6" 16:9 - but what are the PIXEL DIMENSIONS?
http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html says 1280x800 display

7. Re: A Laptop for Premier CS6
EditinGFilMSchooL Nov 3, 2013 9:17 AM (in response to John T Smith)About the GPU:
Memory Speed * 1800 - 2000 MHz Shader Speed * 1250 - 1876 MHz Core Speed * 625 - 938 MHz Max. Amount of Memory 2048 MB And yes - the display is more than 1280X800
All is the other things is as you said
Also. i've found this laptop:

It is so slow, that if you want to finish your studies before retirement age, get a faster one.
