It looks like you are editing something by clicking on the "Live" tab as
opposed to "Design" tab. Try clicking on the Design tab and you will be
able to edit anything in design mode. See this picture:
Hope this helps.
In the above picture, Live is highlighted just to show it to you but you
need the Design tab that is next to it.
No, I am definitely in design mode - live is dark, design bright. When I am in Live mode my computer grinds to a halt, so never use it.
Some additional information - I found that if I hit the enter key, it inserts a new paragraph outside of the div and gives me the editing cursor. Then I hit undo to get rid of whatever the enter did. The cursor stays in edit form after that and I can edit within the div, so I have a kludgy workaround.
I'm no expert but it's possible your install has got corrupted. BTW... you don't mention your OS.
Anyway, maybe a clean uninstall and reinstall will fix the problem...
Design View can get pretty cranky when your code has errors.
Check the validator at http://validator.w3.org and make sure you're working with clean code before resorting to wiping preferences, config folders or reinstalling.
If your code is clean and it's still not allowing you to click your text in Design View, you may have a z-indexing issue. I notice on pages that use a lot of positioning (APDivs) you can accidentally cover up your text boxes with blank/transparent areas of other elements and cause problems when trying to access that text at a later date.
It's all guesswork though without seeing your actual page.
Could you post a link?
It's possible that the div containing the text has "overflow:hidden" set on it, or it's set on the container. I have noticed this once or twice with CS6 and I don't remember experiencing this in other versions.
This is Win XP. Generally I do validate my pages after changes, but will double check. I will look into z-indexes - they sound like a likely suspect. I use css for all positioning, and do use z-indexes. A sample page where I just had the problem - I add a monthly newsletter to the top of this page:
I found that I do have an outer div set as zindex=1 while the paragraphs I want to enter are zindex=-2. I don't want to tweak the zindexes - they were a little tricky to get right, but at least I know the cause of the problem.
I have found the right way to get into edit mode. I click in the area I want to edit, the cursor doesn't change but the area selected (the div) is highlighted in yellow. I then move my cursor up and click right on the yellow edge, and the cursor changes to edit mode and I can do what I want.
