Put the snake in front and the text to the back.
The snake is not on a tranparent layer... It's stop motion

Then you'll want to still put the snake layer on top, and use some sort of Keying Video Effect (Luma Key, perhaps) to temporarily remove the white. You can add this white back in by adding a white Color Matte underneath all the layers.
The layers, from top to bottom:
- Snake stop motion footage with Keying Video Effect
- White Color Matte
Thanks. This provided an interesteing workaorund, with the snake now slithering over the type. What I originally imagined was the text goinf tranparent as the snake went beneath it. I assume that would require masking?
I re-read your initial post (a bunch of times) and I'm having a hard time trying to visualize what you want...
Do you want the text to only be visible when the snake is underneath? Or do you want the black text to be there, but only be able to see the snake inside the shapes of the letters?
Would you be able to create a rough exmaple of what you're looking for as a finished product in Photoshop? If so, I'm sure someone can walk you through how to create it if I'm not still around to help out...
can anyone please tell me how to recreate this old style flashing word effect.especially the scribbled baby blue letters featured in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0uBJJZ9gOA it would really help me out.
Sorry for the confusion...I want the black text to be there, but be able to see the snake inside the shapes of the letters AND the snake in the rest of the frame. The letters would need to keep a black stroke around them, but the interior would be filled with snake.
I think I am going to keep the version with the snake slithering over the type, it might even work better than what I was envisioning. Thanks!
If you change your mind or want to compare...
I think you will find that if you make a copy of the snake clip, put it on a new sequence, and use levels to make the snake 100% black and the white100% white, you could use the sequence as a track matte to have the snake show through the text.
I am not on my editing PC at the moment, but it you want to email me a few seconds of the snake (or even just a still), I could probably work it out for you when I get home tonight. Send it from my web site at http://www.stevengotz.com or post it somewhere I can get download it.
You might find that you need a more substantial font size to be able to both see the snake, and to see the text outline.
It would be best to start your own thread.
Thanks, Steven. I'll try your suggestion tomorrow, it might be a handy trick to have in the toolbox!
