Can anyone explain like I'm 5 why this is happening, and how to prevent it? Thanks!
Negatives are scanned at 3200dpi, and 24bit depth. This is the metadata from Bridge.
Default settings in Camera Raw
After opening in Photoshop.
The photos are the same size (pixel dimensions), just the resolution is changed to 240 instead of 3200.
That just affects the print size and not the actual size of the scan.
I don't think you need to try to prevent it.
The dimensions are the same, however, the actual file size is changed from roughly 75mb to 34mb. Any idea why?
What file format did the scanner output your scan to?
Saved as tiffs, and they are opening in Ps as tiffs as well. Just at half-size, for a reason I don't understand.
Did you scan into photoshop or to your hard drive?
If you open the original scan into photoshop without going through camera raw, is it the same?
(a scan that hasn't already been opened in camera raw)
It's also possible the metadata added by the scanner is for a 16 bits/channel scan (48 bit color).
What version of Bridge is that?
Scanned direclty into photoshop. And if I open the tif from explorer or bridge, bypassing Camera Raw, it opens as the 75mb file size. I thought it might have somethign to do with the color, as Bridge labels bits/channel as 'Bit depth', but the images all are 24bit, even after White Balance correction in Camera Raw.
