    Batch import of psd files

    RSA 777 Community Member

I have 60 small psd files with only 4 to 6 layers each, but I want to import into Premiere. This is a common work flow for me, but each time I have to import the files one at a time and click the option to import as individual layers. I would like to do this once and import all 60. In the import box I am given a choice on the right side of cancel, select all or select none, but selecting all does not work for me. I know this is going to be something simple I'm not doing ... it always is, but .... I'm using the latest Premiere and Photoshop and Windows 7. Suggestions??? Thanks for your time.

          Good news, bad news:

The good news is that you're not missing something simple. The bad news is that PPro does not provide a way to batch import PSD with the same layer treatment setting.

You're not the first to request this feature, and it's fairly high in our backlog of requests. Of course, as always, we can't even hint at when it might become reality.

Thanks for the quick reply and the tongue in cheek good news - bad news.

I am away from my editing PC at the moment, but I believe that the easiest solution is to create a project with a large number of PSD files, going through the hassle of adding them all in one at a time. If your workflow requires this on a regular basis, you can always just name those files 1.psd, 2.psd, 3.psd etc. Then you can import the project into any project you want. All you have to do is name your psd files for the new project to match the old project. Then go find them when asked to do so. Of course the old files have to be missing, at least temporarily, so that Premiere Pro will ask for the new location.

In the meantime, submit a feature request to help get it to a higher spot on the mountain of requests.
