What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
-If Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself

Audio OR Video issue. Sounds like Audio and not Video.
Specifically I would ask...
1. What is the computer operating system that your Premiere Elements 12 is running on?
2. What are the properties of the source media that you are importing into the presumed Expert workspace? How are you importing them...Add Menu/what? What is your project preset?
3. From what you wrote, you seem to be saying that the imported video displays in the Edit Mode monitor after it is dragged to the Timeline, but there is an audio problem. Is that correct? If so, what do you mean by the audio, etc. remain black.
a. do you mean "blank", no audio clip seen in the Timeline audio track(s)
b. so sound on playback
c. something else
Your answers will help us to develop the appropriate troubleshooting strategy.
Well, I fixed it. I'm new to Premeire Elements and I still have a lot to learn. The problem was I was on Quick view and not Expert view and that is why i did not see the timeline. However, the space where it should be was black instead of gray.
I don't know all the details of this computer. It is a Dell Latitude. It is 32 bit, not 64. Also, its about 3 or 4 years old. Regardless, I got it working in Expert view and that is where I like to work.
Thanks for the help.
