1. Re: Where's the white !
Curt Y Nov 9, 2013 2:08 PM (in response to my5cats)When you choose a white brush is it white?
Do you have a monitor calibator?

2. Re: Where's the white !
Trevor.Dennis Nov 9, 2013 2:22 PM (in response to Curt Y)Fill an image with white, open the Color panel, click on the image with the Eye dropper and see what values apear in the Color panel. I bet they are 255 255 255 and that it is your monitor or something else in your set up.

3. Re: Where's the white !
my5cats Nov 9, 2013 2:32 PM (in response to Curt Y)When I open an image on my computer screen the whites are white. If I open the same image in PS the whites are cream. I believe the problem is in PS. thanks

4. Re: Where's the white !
my5cats Nov 9, 2013 2:37 PM (in response to Trevor.Dennis)I did that. They are 255, 255, 255. But when I open the same image in PS the whites are cream. Thanks

5. Re: Where's the white !
Trevor.Dennis Nov 9, 2013 2:45 PM (in response to my5cats)You'll need to give us more information then. Are these RAW files you are opening in ACR? If so, how are you setting White Balance?
If you open one of your problem images. Open a new layer, and paint white into it, does it still look off-white? Bottom line is that Histograms never lie. If and part of the image samples at 255 255 255 and looks anything other than white, it is monitor calibration or a set up issue.

6. Re: Where's the white !
twenty_one Nov 9, 2013 2:52 PM (in response to my5cats)It's a corrupt monitor profile. Recalibrate. It shows as white elsewhere because those applications don't use the profile.

7. Re: Where's the white !
my5cats Nov 9, 2013 3:05 PM (in response to Trevor.Dennis)First,I'm not super computer savy. I create a new blank file in PS. I fill it with , what should be, the white swatch ( which looks cream). The image color is cream in PS but when I open it on my moniter it is perfect white ! All my images look cream in PS and fine on my moniter ! thanks

8. Re: Where's the white !
twenty_one Nov 9, 2013 3:18 PM (in response to my5cats)If this happened recently, you probably got a bad profile through Windows Update (yes, that happens).
If you don't have a calibrator, use sRGB. Go to Control Panel > Color Management > Devices. If sRGB isn't in the list, click "add" and pick it from the list of profiles, then click "set as default". Reboot.

my5cats Nov 9, 2013 5:20 PM (in response to twenty_one)it is set to sRGB default , and white is still cream. only in PS thanks

10. Re: Where's the white !
Curt Y Nov 9, 2013 5:35 PM (in response to my5cats)PS is a color managed program, many are not. So odds are PS color is correct, if you have the correct color profile.

Your monitor profile is hosed.

12. Re: Where's the white !
twenty_one Nov 10, 2013 3:06 AM (in response to my5cats)What exactly is set as sRGB default?
To be clear, this is a classic symptom of a broken monitor profile. And the fact that only PS exhibits this creamy white confirms it beyond reasonable doubt.
Again: only Photoshop, and some other fully color managed applications, actually use the monitor profile. Others that are not color managed, like Windows Explorer, the Windows desktop, Internet Explorer, the list goes on, don't use it and never touch it.
When the profile is good, it gives added accuracy, which is why Photoshop uses it. But when it goes bad - that's where you see it.

my5cats Nov 10, 2013 11:08 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Hi, I followed all of your advises. I'm not sure which one worked, but I have my white back in PS. Big Thanks to all of you! I'm back to work.
