Jon-M-Spear Nov 14, 2013 9:28 AM (in response to TheShamsMan)Create a new sequence 1920 x 1080 and drag the 1920 x 1440 into its timeline. This should crop 360 px. You can then use the motion settings to decide upon final positioning.

TheShamsMan Nov 14, 2013 9:33 AM (in response to Jon-M-Spear)Hey Jon,
Thanks for the reply.
When I create a 1080p sequence and drag the 1440p clip onto it, Premiere Pro will request that I change the sequence settings to match the video. is this what you are speaking of?
I might be doing it incorrectly, but the MOTION settings will allow me to crop the top of the bottom no problem, but then the picture won't resize to fit to the edge. I'll still be stuck with the black letter boxes. Unless I resize, in which case the video loses shape.
Would you mind giving me a bit more details on your steps?

Peru Bob Nov 14, 2013 10:13 AM (in response to TheShamsMan)It sounds like you are trying to use the "scale" property when you should be using the "position" property instead.

TheShamsMan Nov 14, 2013 10:27 AM (in response to Peru Bob)Hey Bob,
Thanks for the reply.
I've tried the POSITION option as well. All it does is reposition the picture. I'm not able to decide how much of that respoitioning I want to happen from the top or bottom. And once repositioning is done, I'm still stuck with the black letter boxes at the top or the bottom, which I didn't want. I wanted to cut the height of the 1440p video, so that all that is left is 1080p, without touching the 1920 width.
Sorry. I'm probably explaining it all the wrong way. I hope you guys get what I'm trying to say.

6. Re: [How To Question] 1440p to 1080p
TheShamsMan Nov 14, 2013 10:49 AM (in response to TheShamsMan)I think I may have found the as-good-as-it-gets method of doing it. For all I know, could be the only way.
I have to use a combination of CROP and POSITION with the UNIFORM SCALE off in a 1080p sequence. The simple crop and reposition.
I was definitely over complicating it in my head. I guess it isn't that difficult.
Thanks for the help guys!

8. Re: [How To Question] 1440p to 1080p
shooternz Nov 14, 2013 12:10 PM (in response to TheShamsMan)I may be absolutely wrong here.. but if you drop 1440 into a 1080 Sequence. ..dont you just change the PAR from rectangular to square?
I have no 1440 to test it.
BTW - You are not reszing it at all. Its a full HD 1920. source.
I would edit in a Matched Sequence and Export in 1920 x 1080 if thats what you want

TheShamsMan Nov 14, 2013 12:19 PM (in response to shooternz)Would you mind explaining the PAR function for me?
I think you might be able to do a decent test if you download a 1920x1440 image from Google Image. I'm at work now, so don't actually have the video either. Been testing on this image.
Thanks!

10. Re: [How To Question] 1440p to 1080p
shooternz Nov 14, 2013 12:28 PM (in response to TheShamsMan)Not sure that a google imageworks the same as movie footage. Domt know.
But I repeat:
I would edit in a Matched Sequence and Export in 1920 x 1080
Cant think of a reason of doing otherwise unless you are using both 1080 and 1440 in same sequence.
In that case you would Modify / Interpret the PAR ( pixel aspect ratio) of the 1440 (rectangular) to 1080 (square)
Reason is that square pixels are for display and used by most cameras where as rectangular pixels are not so much.
