Cadillacula Nov 19, 2013 10:55 AM (in response to ronze98)I've experienced what you speak of - and I've found it to be a delicate dance.
I've achieved the best (most natural without the "patchiness") reults by using an adjustment layer above the footage.
Then (if you want to stay within premiere) I used the secondary color correction feature of either Fast CC or 3-Way CC. The key here is to make sure your mask is well done... scrub the footage for areas where your mask falls off or doesnt grab the complete face or limbs and use the + eyedropper to fix. Then make sure you add a decent amount of soften to sort of smooth everything over (like smudging shadows on a pencil drawing).
The final step is to blend the adjustment layer in with the original footage so its not that harsh "effecty" color correction. You can blend with straight opacity but you can also experiement with the blend mode. I've had interesting results with soft light.
