After installing photoshop cc on my dell venue 8 pro, the program refuses to register the pressure sensitivity of the active pen display. The device is running windows 8.1 and uses the synaptics pen technology as opposed to wacom. Is there any way for me to force photoshop to eeither look for the default windows drivers or better yet get proper support for synaptics?
You would have to work with the manufacturor to develop the driver. Since it is new they have some work to do. Also, be aware there are 2 driver standards. One Supported by Adobe that Wacom uses, and the other less effective standard that is not supported. Believe it is called MS Ink.
In case anyone else googles this as I did when I recently purchused a Dell Venue 7140 (basically same as 8 just bigger): it is possible to add pressure sensitivity without a "proper" driver.
Locate the Photoshop Settings folder (you need to enable hidden folders): C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Adobe Photoshop CC Settings\
In this folder create a text file called PSUserConfig.txt containing the following:
# AllowRTS uRTS 1
Voilá! Pen pressure will be recognized next time you start Photoshop. Works flawlessly for me!
