Adobe Muse 7.1 - Can't export HTML or upload to FTP, APP FREEZE!

    xmikal65x Community Member

Hi, I've been trying to upload to FTP or export to HTML and everytime I do this the program freezes. My Muse site heavily deals with images, for example the project size is 712mb.

I don't know what the issue is. I've updated both Adobe Air and the Latest version.

I've sent my file to muse-support@adobe.com

sent using through Dropbox. Link to this conversation included.

      Muse website is here: http://www.michalshipman.com/monsterarts

Checking in on the status of this, or to see if any staff member has recieved it?

I checked the Muse Log and this is what's listed:

Build 329: Sat Nov 23 10:42:23 2013 UTC: Error:CHECKING:IO Error downloading update descriptor file: Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: http://www.ad.com/go/muse_produpdate2

          Build 329: Sat Nov 23 10:42:53 2013 UTC: Opening file 'C:\Users\Shipman Media\Desktop\S.H. MonsterArts Articulation Series.muse' with status:success size:757628928 mod Date:Sat Nov 23 02:36:06 GMT-0800 2013

I've tried uploading still and I just received this error message:

Error: Error #1000: The system is out of memory.

I received your file and spent time working with it and discussing it with a fellow member of the development team on Friday. (While the Technical Support team mans the chat line 24/7, the development team officially only works Monday-Friday.)

The short answer is your going to have to resize all your imported images down to the resolution they're being displayed in Muse in Photoshop (you could use File > Save for Web...) and then update/relink the links. Your workflow exposes a weakness in how/when Muse decides it can safely downsample (resize smaller) images. This applies both to what data is stored in the .muse file and the size of the exported images.

Your file contains 200+ images that range from 8 megapixels to 18 megapixels in size. The fact they're all being used as background image (Fills) result in Muse not reducing their resolution. The end result is a huge .muse file that is unmanageable in RAM and would result in a website that would be exceptionally slow to load in the browser.

If the images are resized outside of Muse and re-linked, I expect your .muse file will drop to ~35Mb or less without any reduction in the quality of the images as displayed in the browser.

An alternate approach would be to use File > Place to bring in the images and then manually position, crop and resize each image to fit. When using File > Place Muse will always resize the images down to the size at which they're being used. When using background images, Muse cannot always safely determine whether reflow in the browser may result in the container being a different size and thus doesn't always resize background images. That said, for your use case Muse should able to be smart enough to have resampled the images. That's something we'll look at fixing for a future release.

Haha, this is funny because the way I did my workflow was to avoid having to resize images myself and present them at their highest quality. The wonderful thing I found is that by applying images to a triggers background is that they're all uniform and fit to the triggers frame. This saves me LOADS of time instead of using the "place" feature and having to guess the consistensy of all the images uniformity.

I used the method of putting all the images in photoshop and saving them for web as perscribed. Being 200+ images, it was no fun task. The good news is that the Muse can finally upload the whole site again.

HOWEVER, my Muse project file is still 730mb and hasn't reduced in size since I've updated it with smaller images.  All my images went from a 5K resolution to 800x(XXX) pixels.

If you Save As to a new file name the new file should be radically smaller.

In order to keep Save as fast as possible, Muse doesn't re-shuffle everyting within the file to get rid of unused spaces when doing a Save. The "compact" step is only performed during a Save As.

Also, one other approach may work for you in some cases if both the trigger container and the target container are just different sizes of the same image, possibly with a caption on the target version. That is to use a Slideshow with thumbnails and set the thumbnails to "Freefrom" layout. The thumbnails/triggers will all be maintained as the same size, but they can be freely moved around the page and with a Slideshow widget the thumbnail and hero images are resampled by Muse.

                  Thanks for that.

I have resaved and the file has reduced in size to 142mb.
