What version of PrE are you using?
What OS (Operating System) version are you using?
Good luck, and please let us know about that error message (as requested by John T.) and the versions of both PrE and your OS.
I have Premier Elements 11 and I am operating on a Dell computer with Windows 8. When I try to download from either a camera or my files it seems to start downloading and then it says "The importer reported a generic error"

You need to provide details for anyone to help... also, what version of Quicktime do you have installed?
