Curt Y Dec 1, 2013 8:18 AM (in response to Ola_1974.)I don't think you can as now it has to reference a new location.. You have to let it rebuild, preferely overnight.

Curt Y Dec 1, 2013 8:20 AM (in response to Curt Y)I believe if you click edit/show items from folders it will index everything.

3. Re: BRIDGE CS6 - Move CACHE without rebuilding/indexing
Omke Oudeman Dec 1, 2013 1:19 PM (in response to Curt Y)I agree on that, select the main folder with the subfolders in it you want to be cached. Be sure you have Bridge prefs set to the new location for Cache. Then use menu view / show items from subfolders and let it do its job.
The more resources your computer has the faster it will run. Turn off energy mode to prevent your system going into sleep mode and quit other applications.
You can always stop the process when needed, the next time it will pick it up again.

Ola_1974. Dec 8, 2013 2:53 PM (in response to Omke Oudeman)Thanks guys!!
The problem is, the apporach you are suggesting, will make Bridge index/cache ALL of my files, and although I have A LOT of files that are indexed, I have equally many or maybe more, that are not, and need not to be indexed..
That is why I would like to MOVE the and keep the existing library so that I don't cache files I do not need to be cached...
I guess I will just have to bite the bitter apple and delete the old cache, sit and wait for each folder I access, one by one...
This is something that needs to be adressed by Adobe...

5. Re: BRIDGE CS6 - Move CACHE without rebuilding/indexing
Curt Y Dec 8, 2013 5:16 PM (in response to Ola_1974.)I think you misunderstand what the cache is for. If you have none then Bridge can not display a thumbnail. For the fastest smallest cache use Embedded, and do not generate or save 100% previews.

6. Re: BRIDGE CS6 - Move CACHE without rebuilding/indexing
Yammer Dec 9, 2013 3:09 AM (in response to Ola_1974.)I have done this successfully several times, and it should be as straightforward as you'd think. I am on Windows. Here is what I did:
In Bridge, change cache location setting to planned location, eg. C:\Cache\CS6\Bridge
Quit Bridge
Create a new folder on SSD, C:\Cache\CS6\Bridge
Copy existing cache to new location, i.e. C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS6\Cache\*.* to C:\Cache\CS6\Bridge
Start Bridge
Bob's your uncle.
(IF Bob's your uncle, you may now delete the original cache)

That is not necessary, you can select your main folder, go to menu View / show items from subfolders and all files in all subfolders will be cached and indexed in one go.
Although you might want to walk away or take a good night sleep during this process...

Or, you can select the root folder you want to cache, and click Tools > Cache > Build and Export Cache... > OK (making sure you only have the appropriate boxes ticked if necessary)

Only if you are aware that by default this means building the cache twice, one to the central cache and a separate cache file that is written to each folder.
Besides a lot of extra space this 'cache per folder' has brought me nothing but trouble for the past 3 versions…

Not at all.
As I said above, make sure you only have the appropriate boxes ticked. So, only tick the 'Export Cache to Folders' box if you want it -- otherwise don't, and it won't.

...and it stays unticked once you've cleared it.
An advantage to the tool menu method is that you can leave the cache to build in the background and carry on using Bridge normally, albeit more slowly.
