Dual Monitor vs 1 Large screen

I would like to know what your preferences are between a dual monitor vs 1 large screen?

I am a web and graphic designer and am using my laptop to connect a display. Therefore I would probably need to buy an external graphic card, 2 monitors and a dual screen stand.

For that price I could buy a pretty good HD tv.

For users that have gone over to a large screen, have you had any workflow problems? What size tv would you reccommend?

I prefer dual monitors.  I often have several programs open at once, and using one monitor as a reference while working in PS on the other.  I don't like having to adjust my apps window size all the time.

An External graphics card?  How does that work?

Most laptops will drive a second display as standard, and most modern laptops will drive at least a 1920 x 1080 remote screen.

From previous threads on this forum, I believe you can use the second monitor as your main screen, and the laptop for your Photoshop panels etc.  Maybe with a USB keyboard so you are not working at an angle.

I think most of the regulars here use two monitors, and two screens work well for Photoshop.  Three screens would be better for Premiere Pro, but that is a whole different story.

The OP is refering to what is call a USB display adapter. Works best with a USB 3.0 port. The graphic engine is usually powered by an VIA chip. The is very commonly use for tri display setup.

I am also interested in how the two option comapare. A 27" screen will gice you 2560 X 1440, vs say 2 X 24" which is smaller but will give you 3840 X 1080. Which one is better for Lightroom 5 and a bit of PS.
