Can I import 264 files into Premiere Elements 11

    PhilipD123

I get a generic error when I attempt to import some 264 files. These were created on a cctv system.

It depends on what format they're in and how you got them from your camcorder to your computer.

What model of camcorder are these videos coming from and what resolution are they?

Also, have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirements?

If I am correct we went through a recent rounds on this type of question recently. Those files are not the typical video files with H.264 video compression. I suspect that what you have are typically output from security cameras.

These files are not supported by Premiere Elements and converting them to another format may be difficult.

That recent thread on 264 files can be found

            http://forums.adobe.com/message/5880014#5880014

There is no answer to the issue in that thread. The sample file never got through.

I just found the following article that seems to confirm what I suspect your video properties are

            http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/241320-49-play-files#.

See if any of the discussion in this link sheds some light on your situation.

            Thanks.

As soon as I saw this post, I searched for the .264 extension in my hard drive. Found two files - could play both of them in Premiere Elements 11 and 12. Just imported them and played them on the expert room timeline.

Pathetic quality of the video though. I am not sure how these are there in my hard drive! Got to check with my friends for whom I have edited some projects if it belongs to them.

As always, many thanks for the follow up.

My recollection is that, within the past few months, the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum has had at least 2 threads which related to this .h264.

I may pursue this when I get a chance to determine define the factors which make this format compatible with Premiere Elements whatever version. Your report of what you found works for you in this situation is extremely helpful. As I write, the answers are in the details. And, your details are most interesting and appreciated.

                      Best wishes,
