1. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
Stan Jones Dec 3, 2013 4:44 PM (in response to jackdelamare)The answer is "no." You are using Encore's feature of adding animated thumbnails. And that feature is limited to pulling from the timeline it is linked to.
All you have to do is to edit the video you are using for the background, and add the thumbnail vidoe you want. You can keep the other thumbnails as they are.
This is all Encore does in the end; takes the videos you direct and transcodes them into a single background video.

2. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
jackdelamare Dec 3, 2013 5:05 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Hi Stan!
Not to sound stupid, but I don't get what you mean? So there is no way to change what plays in the video thumbnail as it's taken from the timeline for the clip it's linked to, but what did you mean about a background video?
Thanks for your help

3. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
Stan Jones Dec 3, 2013 5:23 PM (in response to jackdelamare)about a background video?
Ah. Sorry. You have no background video - just a still menu with the animated buttons.
Select the menu; on the motion tab in the menu properties, you checked the animate buttons box to create motion in the menu (when rendered). You could also add a movie that will play in the background instead of the still background you have now. You add such a movie (generally an m2v file) using the video box a few lines above the animate buttons box.
Things like titles, buttons, text in buttons, etc is on top of the motion background.
You can manually create the video thumbnails by editing such a background movie and scalng down your timeline videos to put the little thumbnail clip in. When you do it manually, you can add video from anywhere, not just the timeline a button is linked to.
Still not very well explained, but maybe a bit clearer.

4. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
jackdelamare Dec 8, 2013 5:57 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Hmm. What about if I wanted that one scene to NOT play the preview thumbnail? Is that possible? If I delete the "(%) video thumbnail copy 2" and then link the button to the start of the film directly, then perhaps it won't play the preview and will just stay black.

5. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
jackdelamare Dec 8, 2013 7:08 AM (in response to jackdelamare)Ok so that works perfectly, but now a new problem has come up. Basically, I created all my highlights in Photoshop so they weren't the bad highlights (yellows etc) like Adobe has by default. They were all working fine, like this:
It's un-rendered but you can see the highlight is a thicker white box around it which looks nice.
But, for some reason, scene selection menu 1 has decided it doesn't like these highlights and has reverted to "Group 1" of button highlights like this:
I have no idea how to revert this and I noticed that if you click on a button, the "highlight" drop down now has "group 1" or "group 2" but for every other menu the box is grayed out and just says "--".
Do you possibly know how to revert this? It's really annoying me now, almost everything was perfect.

6. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
Stan Jones Dec 8, 2013 9:46 AM (in response to jackdelamare)I suspect you have the color set for that MENU set to automatic. Change it to a color set (e.g. menu default or one who have created), and you'll see the options.

7. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
jackdelamare Dec 8, 2013 10:18 AM (in response to Stan Jones)No that's the thing, I don't want to see the options. They ruin my "highlights" that I created in Photoshop. The second image which has "--" is how it should be, all 4 other menus are like that and work the way I want them to. All of a sudden something went wrong with the first menu.

8. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
Stan Jones Dec 8, 2013 10:46 AM (in response to jackdelamare)Ah. Select the menu, and change the color set back to automatic.

9. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
jackdelamare Dec 8, 2013 11:18 AM (in response to Stan Jones)I did, and unfortunately that solves nothing. It seems to not even be recognising that I created my own highlights in Photoshop.

Then selection of color set does not appear to be the problem.
I would look for a problem in that menu; or replace that one.

jackdelamare Dec 16, 2013 3:10 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Is that the only way there is? Nothing I can do in Photoshop or anything?

12. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
Stan Jones Dec 16, 2013 5:47 AM (in response to jackdelamare)You might be able to avoid idenifying the problem by deleting the problem menu, duplicate one of the correct menus (in Encore), then modify as needed. Not a guarantee, but it should work.

13. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
jackdelamare Dec 16, 2013 11:05 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Did try that and it did work but I then couldn't changed my linked buttons to the chapters I wanted... which is incredibly confusing. They are now not coming up as an option when I select the "link" for each button.

14. Re: Motion Menu - video thumbnail change?
Stan Jones Dec 16, 2013 11:10 AM (in response to jackdelamare)I'm not sure how that is possible if they are chapters in a timeline in the project. But you can try using the pick whip to the chpater marker in the timeline.

jackdelamare Dec 17, 2013 8:24 AM (in response to Stan Jones)That worked - thank you Stan! Some really weird errors but I'm burning a copy as we speak so that should be it completed! The just to convert the project to DVD...
