Have you tried adding a stroke value and color to the type?
I'm a former Pagemaker user who is trying to learn InDesign and parts of it are driving me nuts. I have found Stroke Weight and set it at 1 pt but how do you then set the color of the stroke and not the text itself? Thanks.
In either the Swathes or Color panels, or the Toolbox you'll see a pair of color proxies, one solid and one just an outline. There will be two samll buttons next to them. The one that is a plain square means the colors you choose ewill be applied to the container, if you slect the one with the T th colors are applied to the text. The solid proxy represents the fill color, the hollow proxy is the stroke color.
a 1 pt stroke is pretty heavy for anything but very large text, but I think you'll see that for yourself when you apply it correctly.
In this screen capture the swatches are set to apply the green swatch to the text stroke (the stroke proxy is in front of the fill proxy -- click whicver you want bring it to the front):
