Steve Grisetti Dec 5, 2013 5:34 AM (in response to ArgentineTangoDancer)It's possible your computer isn't powerful enough to edit more intensive video formats in Premiere Elements.
What is the resolution, frame rate and format of your video?
What are your Project Settings (listed under the Edit menu)?
If your project settings match your video specs, you'll get the best possible performance from the program. If this is the case, you will NOT see an amber line along the top of your timeline in Expert view. Is that the case with your project?

ArgentineTangoDancer Dec 5, 2013 7:52 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)The DSLR video was shot in HD 1920 x 1080, which matches the frame size under the Edit menu. Under Video Capture the format was DV and I changed it to HDV and added the video again, but the video was still choppy. Under the Video Rendering menu the Optimize Stills box was checked and I changed it to Maximize Bit Depth and video was still choppy. My laptop is connected to a 1920 x 1080 monitor, but the graphics card will only display a maximum of 720p. I'm thinking that this may be the problem, although Windows Movie Maker displays the video smoothly. Windows Movie Maker does process the video upon capturing, so it may be converting the video to run smoothly-- don't really know for sure. There are yellow lines in the timeline-- both in video and in the audio tracks.

ArgentineTangoDancer Dec 5, 2013 9:25 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)There is an amber line running through the clip near the top of the video image and another amber line running between the stereo audio waveforms, but none above the timeline itself.

John T Smith Dec 5, 2013 10:06 AM (in response to ArgentineTangoDancer)>meet the requirements for Adobe Premiere Elements
There have been MANY discussions here, and in the Premiere Pro forum, about Adobe's requirements
The general concensus HERE is that the Adobe marketing people want more people to buy the program, so they list MINIMUM requirements, not EFFECTIVE EDITING requirements
In the PPro area, but This message has a really good picture showing requirements

Steve Grisetti Dec 5, 2013 10:35 AM (in response to John T Smith)And this would be particularly true if your video is shot in 60p.
