Welcome to the forum.
- What OS version are you using?
- Are you running PrE as an Administrator, or similar?
- What is the layout of your I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's on the computer?
When do you get this message "Adobe Premiere Elements 12. Scratch disks are write protected or unavailable"?
a. when you are opening a new or an existing project
b. when you are working in the project, perhaps rendering the Timeline content
Where do you have the Premiere Elements 12 Scratch Disks directed?
(See Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks.)
To an external hard drive formatted NTFS and not FAT32?
If so, look at the drive letter of that external hard drive and let us know if it has changed?
If so, use Computer, Manage, Disc Management to change the drive letter back to what is was.
Please let us know if any of the above applies to you. If not, we will think abut this some more.
Thank you for your help....
I'm Mac based with iMac that is about 3 months old, 8GB ram and 1 TB disk. OS 10.9 Maverick. I have a Lacie Thunderbolt 3TB as my main disk and a 4TB Lacie for back up...
a. When I create a New document I select where I want the scratch disc to be directed, I add the content and make edits, save the file and then render it. The rendering goes all fine to where I have directed it. As long as I do NOT quit the project or close the project I can create Blu-ray, DVD's, .mov files and all.
BUTTTTT if i quit and reopen that file I get these two alerts first alerts says "The scratch disks are write protected or unavailable." the second comes up whe I go to render "Invalid Scratch Disk path for video previews. Please change it to some other location."
I can not do anything because it can not render or can not write to disks so I can not make DVD's or data files. Could it be OS 10.9?.
FYI I have redirected my scratch to the internal Mac drive and same problem.
See enclosed attachements.
That is where I'm at. Is it a global thing on my internal, exteranal HD's, OS 10.9 or what.
1) os 10.9
3) I have two Lacie drives 3 TB and a 4 TB My Mac is 3 months old with 8GB of RAM and 1 TB interanl HD
Thank you for the discovery process.
The attachments did not appear.
If you are not already, please send via browser connected to your computer rather than from iphone.
I am not great on these sendings so we may have to wait for Hunt to appear with his insider information on this how to.
Maybe it will be in the attachment which are to come, but do you see any changes in the drive letters of any of your drives?
While we are waiting for further details, here are some questions for answering
a. When you go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks in the Premiere Elements 12 workspace, specifically what do you see for location and space remaining for the location to which each is directed:
You say that you have 2 Lacie drives, 3 TB and 4TB. What is the drive letter of each now and before? Are those external hard drives formatted NTFS or FAT32?
Is the I TB internal HD your Local Disk C or is the Lacie 3 TB your Local Disc C?
What drive did you install Premiere Elements 12 to?
Do you have more than one version of Premiere Elements installed on your Mac computer?
What do you mean when you write that you create a "new document"? Do you mean new Premiere Elements project?
I will pause here and let us catch up on the exchange of information that we will put together.
Off for the evening. Back at you tomorrow. Thank you so much for your help. I have a good vibe it will be solved.. Again thank you.
