Look on the envelope that the installation DVD came in, and you should see the S/N. If you bought, say the Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements bundle, you will have two S/N's.
You should be looking specifically for the serial number on the box in which the discs came. The digit sequence should be, with it clearly labeled serial number.
I purchased the boxed bundle Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12. There were two installation discs, each in its own envelope (one disc for Windows installation, one for Mac).
These two installation discs were in a rectangular box on which was pasted a label with serial number for Photoshop Elements and a label with the serial number for Premiere Elements.

The serial number was on an insert inside the box. I went to an adobe tech chat. They directed me to a link that instructed the various places to search for the serial number.
Thanks Mr Hunt for taking your time to help.!
Yes Mr Romano, the link you suggested was nearly like the link a chat tech directed me to. Your link was accurate in also finding the serial number.
Thanks for the follow up and the good news.
