I cannot download new flash player

I have a mac 0sx 10.7.5 with safari 6.1 browser. I have done a clean un-install on my pc of all adobe folders. I have tried to re-install with re-starting first. I have tried installing an earlier version and the message says that I already have a newer version installed. But, when I go to adobe's website, it says that I dont' have any program installed at all. I do not have any websites blocked, java script is enabled, allow-plug ins is enabled...I am so frustrated. Any suggestions? Do we not have a choice for a substitute for Adobe?
