    Total menu size exceeds limit?

    jimic0953 Community Member

I finally put my video together in Premier and output it as an mpg2 dvd video. According to Encore, the file is 3.77 GB. What I don't understand is, the check project window says, "total menu size exceeds limit". I only have one menu button that says, play, so it can't be the menu can it? What I've read is that the multiplex setting is duplicating the audio file maybe? I'm not sure what that means, I only know, the file should be small enuf to fit on a 4.3 Gig DVD. What can I do to get this blasted DVD finished? I"m working in CS 4. thanks

Just got this from Creative Cow:

Just my personal preference, but I've always preferred to render my MPEG-2 files out of Premiere, so that after creating my DVD menus and such, there's not such a long wait for all the encoding. I can see the finished DVD in minutes rather than hours.

I got a formula from the Adobe site that works well, which is 560/minutes to determine the encoding bitrate. I just use CBR to encode and end up with an .m2v video clip and a .wav audio file. Import these to Encore, make sure audio is set to Dolby, and Encore only has to transcode the audio and not the video.

Using above formula, a 90 minute video would be encoded at 6.0, and 120 minutes at 4.5. Note that I round-down a little to allow for menu overhead, etc.

          1st question: What is CBR?

2nd question: Am I gonna have to go back into Premier, take out the audio files and do a separate video without the audio trak in order to get the job done?

I will say this, I have a whole new respect for people who do video all the time. This is really a fascinating subject that I will never have time to get a handle on Just read about Constant Bit Rate, and I'm a little dizzy to be honest. At this point, I just wanna take my amination and get a dvd finished.

Well I'm getting a few things straight, but I still need answers please I"m doing video that I created in Lightwave, so its 1280x720 video rendered at 30 fps. I don't do interlaced, (sorry, don't know what it means really), but I do know, the files are really big. So my question is, what settings would be best for me to render out the video? I've been doing Mpeg 2 video, 1280x720 at 29.97 drop frames. I dont know if bitrate should be constant or variable. ( I dont have alot of action in my video, but I do have some) After that, I"m lost. Any help here would be really appreciated. thanks

Since your 1st message said you are doing a DVD, not a BluRay, that is not legal and Encore must transcode to make it fit

You need to export out of Lightwave (or Premiere) as MPEG2 DVD, which is 720x480... if you get it right, Encore will not need to transcode again

My guess is that you've added the video to the menu, instead of to a timeline.

I believe Jim is correct. The only thing likely to trigger that error in a simple project is to link the main timeline asset to a motion menu video.

But I would not even try to sort that out. If you are really doing a DVD rather than Bluray, Do what John suggests.

If that does not work, post a screenshot of your Encore project panel and the menu's properties, Basic and Motion tabs.

                        Thanks guys,

I do appreciate your help. At this point, I'm really los'in it right now. I finally got this thing to the finish line, only to have everything come down on my head. Encore tells me in the build progress window, "Writing files. Failed Completed". And the small white window simply says, "end of life". So the build just dies after about 40 seconds. Meanwhile, I can't get a render out of Premiere at all. That stopped working also.  Media Encoder just sits there. So I'm lost at this point. I just don't know where to start. Since the original sequence images are 1280x 760, I'll have to work with that, cause we're talkin bout six years of work guys. I don't know how to resize that much raw video without cutting it off.

BTW, I did get that, about the menu being tied to the video. I fix that, I think. But now I have other problems. Like I said, now the video won't render out at all.

Oh yeah, how do you post screenshots on this forum? I do it all the time on the LWave forum, but I don't see how to do attachments here. I guess I should mention, the preview window works just fine. The buttons work, and the menu is in place. Also, when I put a dvd in, it keeps coming out, and the window says, put a disk in the drive, so I do, and then it comes back out again.

When making a post in the forum, you will see a "camera" icon.  Click that and it will let you insert the image. (You insert an image, not make an attachment.)

I can't tell if you have a destinaton for the DVD folder entered.

I have what may be the same problem.  Current iMac 32GB ram with Mavericks, Encore CS 5 vrs 5.1.0.342

Exported a 10second video to Encore and Encore reports that the video is too large for the media (25GN BD-R Blu-ray disk).  10GB used for video and 1952GB used for BD-ROM content.

                                    1952GB used for BD-ROM content.

That's definitely not going to fit on a 25GB BD.

I think Mavericks plays a role. Try deleting the rom content. Does anything appear in the rom box? (It is hidden by the check project results box.)

You are both correct.  I was not clear on my original post in that I did not point out that the "rom content" was not mine so I do not know how to delete said content.  In fact, if I change the "Format" from Blu-ray to "DVD" the indication of rom content goes away.  This is the problem, Why is Encore indicating there is rom content when there is not any.  I have changed the size of my video in Premiere Pro and sent  it to Encore via the Dymanic LInk and do see a change in the size of the video content (blue line).  However, the disk is always over filled up with rom content if the Format is Blu-ray.  As I said I can change the Format to DVD and there is no indication of rom content (green line). If I wanted to I can go ahead and burn a normal DVD.

I found a work around after I just made the last post.  I  went in and added some rom content  and it recalcualated the rom content to an amount consistent to the folder I added.  I went ahead a burned the Blu-ray disk and it worked in my Blu-ray DVD player but it did not autorun on my iMac.  At least I can go ahead with my job.  There may be some options that need to be set in Encore to make it autorun.

                                          Thanks Guys for you help
