Yes. Use a group div. this can be done in the elements panel. Then use display on off to show and hide.
although that's not what I was after.
Say you have 100 items on your timeline, it would be so much easier on the eye if you could put some of them in folders (like in Flash) so that you don't have to scroll down and try and find one item out of 100 all the time. But I'm guessing that's not an option in this UI.
Does that makes sense?
I guess I was hoping you could close a folder in the timeline, like how you've shown in the elements panel (ie grouping.png and grouping2.png)
is there any reason why the elements panel and the timeline arent combined? It seems they almost do the same thing in regards to hiding, selecting objects etc (apart from the fact you can't close a folder in the timeline).
Thanks once again.

Like you, I would like to be able to have a better control on the timelime itself. It is not as easy as Flash as you said. But I am trying to forget Flash and concentrate on Edge since this is my primary software right now and Edge is very different from Flash and will never work exactly the same! I miss Flash especially for drawing vectors but this is not going to happen in Edge as far as I can tell because the technology is totally different.
Yeah thanks resdesign,
I'm just converting a complicated Flash animation (the one with the character outside the lab I showed you) I did a few years ago for a client into Edge and just sussing things out.
I think in the end I'll still use Flash to animate complex animations (like walk cycles, etc) but export frames into Edge. I know I gotta let go of Flash in some areas but there's things I'm missing though, like not being able to scale images clearly like you can with Flash's vector ability.
Thanks for your help.
But you can PancreasBoy12. My coworker did it by accident. Unfortunately, we don't know which key command did it, and we forgot how we eventually undid it. It's possible, though as you can see in Redesign's image.
Ross, did you ever find a way to group Timeline layers/assets into folders? I'm with you, I want a way to organize and collapse groups of timeline actions into folders to clean up projects with many layers. Adding elements to a <div> helps within the Elements tab, but merely ADDS yet another action layer to the timeline....which is exactly opposite of what your original question was asking to achieve. It's good for grouped property settings, but cleaning up the mile deep timeline, it does not help.
Hey Adobe, this would be a welcomed feature... if it's not hidden someplace.
Just started with Edge & my timeline is crazy deep....really need to group elements in the timeline e.g. 'Homescreen elements' 'login screen' etc
So odd that it doesn't appear to be there
Has anyone made a feature request?
It has been suggested since before Animate was Animate. Never made the hit parade. grouping is your best solution.
Group div or symbol..
Grouping does not really help. While it does group the elements on stage on the timeline it simply adds another layer which furthers clutters. I thin the original poster was looking for a way to clean up the timeline.
Not sure how this useful feature was overlooked. Grouping elements is great as it allows you to apply transforms and transitions on entire groups... The feature we need is merely superficial, and that is on the timeline to display groups as folders that can be dropped/closed to clean up the user interface.
Even though interface is similar to Adobe After Effect, grouping in timeline option hasn't been given.
Grouping in Elements merely adds layer "<Group name>" to the timeline, an extra layer now covers the timeline
Currently the "fix" I am using is converting my "Groups" to "Symbols" and editing as and when required.
If Interface is similar to AE, including Projects which is now Elements, the timeline's (atleast few options) should be similar as well.
