1. Re: Lightroom 5 - Cannot Import From Another Catalog
JCantave Dec 12, 2013 8:25 AM (in response to chadandreo)I'm experiencing the same issue since yesterday. Running Lightroom 5.2 on a MacBook Pro Retina with Mavericks. Also updated to LR 5.3 this morning but still experiencing the same issue.

Jim Wilde Dec 12, 2013 9:18 AM (in response to chadandreo)Does the catalog that you are trying to import open OK in Lightroom? If so, perhaps try to optimise it and do an integrity check before trying to import it again..

3. Re: Lightroom 5 - Cannot Import From Another Catalog
JCantave Dec 12, 2013 9:47 AM (in response to Jim Wilde)Hi Jim,
Great suggestion! It opens perfectly fine on its own. I even went as far as re-exporting it once it loaded but am still experiencing the same issue. That same catalog loads perfectly fine on my assistant's iMac.
I can't really think about anything that changed in my environment with the exception of a new Bootcamp partition to run windows on an external Thunderbolt HD but I doubt this is related.
I'm open to any suggestions while I am trying this again... 10 minutes of 'Checking for changed and duplicate photos'.

Jim Wilde Dec 12, 2013 10:01 AM (in response to JCantave)Maybe the issue then is with the catalog that you are importing INTO.....have you optimised and integrity-checked that one lately?

JCantave Dec 12, 2013 10:09 AM (in response to Jim Wilde)Thank for the suggestions Jim.
Yes, I did so just this morning as I was trying to figure out what was going on. I may just have reluctantly contact Adobe Support... I have a feeling this could take hours and get me nowhere.

6. Re: Lightroom 5 - Cannot Import From Another Catalog
Jim Wilde Dec 12, 2013 11:18 AM (in response to JCantave)Last suggestion: how about reversing the procedure, i.e. try importing the "main" catalog into the one that you were trying to import?

7. Re: Lightroom 5 - Cannot Import From Another Catalog
JCantave Dec 13, 2013 5:03 AM (in response to Jim Wilde)Your last suggestion was great again but that did not work. It hung just as the reverse did. At this point I suspected 2 things, either one of my catalogs was corrupted or the Bootcamp partition affected the import process somehow.
This morning I removed the BC partition and it still did not work.
In the end, I ended up exporting the XMP files from one catalog and inported them in my main catalog. This did the trick but I'm afreaid that my main catalog is now corrupted.
I will do more testing in the next couple of days and report back but want to thank you for all your help...
Thanks goodness for the XMP files!

8. Re: Lightroom 5 - Cannot Import From Another Catalog
Jim Wilde Dec 13, 2013 5:57 AM (in response to JCantave)Ok, if you think it's your main catalog that has the problem, one more thing you could try:
Export the main catalog, don't include anything in the export, no previews or negatives. Does it Export OK? If so, then create a new empty catalog, then try to import into it that exported version of your main catalog. Does that work?
The only problem with doing things this way (assuming it works of course) is that any Publish Services that you had setup will be lost as they don't transfer when exporting or importing a catalog that contains them.
