1st... I believe the box set has different discs for Win and Mac... are you 100% sure you are using the Win disc?

2nd... does Windows File Manager read the disc?

The box says that it is for Windows XP and Winds Vista. I have Windows 8.1. I do not see it under the file manager.

If File Manager can't read the disc, you either have a bad disc, or a problem with your DVD drive

Try the Download 7-or-8-or-9 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1023689 to download your version and see if your serial number will work

A problem with the DVD drive could definitely be the issue -- if your operating system upgrade or the drive wasn't original installation.

Awesome, thanks for your help I'll give that a try.

I have installed Premiere Elements 7 on Windows 8.1 64 bit (laptop) without issue. For this installation, I am using the DVD drive that is built into this laptop computer. This Windows 8.1 was upgraded from 8 recently.

And, like you, I had one disc to do that installation. This disc is clearly marked "Adobe Premere Elements 7" Windows XP I Windows Vista. Premiere Elements Mac did not exist until Premiere Elements 9.

                    http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/201009/092110AdobePremiereElements 9.html

When you place the installation disc in the DVD drive tray, are you not getting a response from the computer regarding  AutoPlay? And, if not, have you gone to the drive itself which contains the disc, right clicked the drive, and selected Open AutoPlay? Or are you saying that when you go to the drive, there does not appear to be a disc in the drive?

Based on what you have read so far, is your next step to copy the installation disc's Adobe Premiere Elements Folder and install from the Setup.exe in that folder?

If so, we are looking forward to the results. Based on my results, it would appear that your issue should not be related to a fundamental compatibility issue between Premiere Elements 7 and Windows 8.1 64 bit.

Also, when you get Premiere Elements 7 installed on Windows 8.1 64 bit, do not be upset to see the Welcome Screen reading "Windows Vista Multi Processor Detected". Premiere Elements 7 on Windows 7 64 bit says the same thing for the Premiere Elements 7 install. Disc was created before Windows 7 and 8.1 existed. For me, it got the Multi Processor part right.

                      Hi There,

I also installed Adobe Premiere 7.0 on Windows 8.1. It seemed to work as advertized but after a while it crashed. When I restarted the Premiere 7.0, the initial page was presented asking me "Instant Movie", "Open a Project", or "New Project". "Instant Movie" seemed to work but the other two elicited a small sliding bar icon and the presented a notice to the effect that it had run into a problem and had to stop.I was given  no choice to make a choice. As soon as I clicked "OK" the application crashed. After numerous attempts at different routes, the only way to get Premiere 7.0 to run was to uninstall and reinstall it.I also learned to constantly save my work as i progressed because I never knew when it would crash. BTW: with every install, a reboot was needed. What a pain. Regards, Chris

I have not tried Premiere Elements 7 on Windows 8.1 64 bit yet. I think the earliest version that I have tried on Windows 8.1 64 bit was Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1, and that worked fine.

Any chance your source media, project settings, and size of project could be involved in all this? Even though you have a Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit) computer, Premiere Elements 7 is still a 32 bit application running in the 32 bit compatibility mode of the 64 bit system - has the computer resource limitations  of the 32 bit system.

                          Hi There,

                          Thank you for your reply…..

I had not thought about the 32-64 bit difference.

After many iterations of the crash-uninstall-reboot-reinstall-reboot-do a bit-crash- repeat…..I was finally able to create a .FLV file.

However nothing except Premiere would read it.

I found a .FLV converter to MP4 but when I played it on the Windows Media Viewer, the sequences were very pixilated.

I am getting fed up and am going to try an old version of “Pinnacle 9 Studio Plus” and see if that works better.

My system is indeed 64bit so I am at a loss as what to do now….

For troubleshooting purposes only, have you sought access to Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13 to determine how it would behave on

your Windows 8.1 64 bit computer. You could look at the 13 tryout from Adobe or look at 12 or 11 as a tryout from the following web site

that lets you use the tryout (does not sell them).

                            for 12

                            for 11

                            http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l

This would give you insight on whether this 32 - 64 bit computer consideration is limiting in your situation.

Premiere Elements 10, 11, 12, and 13 are 64 bit applications running on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit system with all the added computer

                            resources implications.

I will do that and let you know is I have any success… Probably tomorrow.

                              This is all very annoying.

I suppose I could go back to my XP print server and try that. It is about 10 years old and will take forever but if it works. I think it is a Celeron 2.8ghz or the like.

Glad you asked. I forgot to give you the usual warning that I post when I offer that web page suggestion.

It is a good source for what you need, but you have to read and carry out carefully the web site's "Note: Very

Important Instructions" otherwise you will encounter the Access Denied message.

Before you started clicking on the File 1 and File 2 for your download, did you go through the details "click here" to

take you to Adobe first as described in the "Note: Very Important Instructions"?

Please give that another look. If problems, I will do a step by step to get you to the point on the web page when it

is OK to click on File 1 and File 2 to get your installation files.

We will be watching for your progress.

It happens to many with or without my warning.

                                      Hi There,

I followed all the instructions and the only version that I was able to download was 13.

It worked fine until I tried to create an output file. It had a banner across the screen saying that it was created with a “Trial Version” of Premiere 13.

So, basically, it was useless to me.

I am going to try and load my ver. 9 on my old XP and see if that works.

Otherwise, I suspect that I will be spending some money to get this job done.

                                      Thanks for your help.

Do not give up just yet.

The link that I gave you was to the tryout version of Premiere Elements 12 and that is what you should have gotten, unless you detoured in the web site's instructions.

                                        1. Click on the link that I gave you for the Premiere Elements 12 tryout from the web site.

                                        2. With the web page open, go to the section of the web page that has the "Note: Very Important Instructions".

Review the whole path from 0. to 6.

                                        3. After you click on <<HERE>>, you will be taken to the Adobe web site.

Sign In there with your Adobe ID and Password if you are not already signed in there.

The Adobe web site page should be the download page for Premiere Elements 13.

                                        a. minimize all the Adobe web site pages, and maximize the web page with that sent

                                        you there.

                                        b. go to the part of the donor web site where you see and click on File 1, when finished

with the File 1 instructions, then next File 2

For Files 1 and 2, pick the choice that agrees with your computer operating system.

                                        File 1.JPG

For Premiere Elements 12 Windows 64 bit, I clicked on File 1 and got the download box for File 1

(PremiereElements_12_LS26_win64.exe. Follow the instructions from there. But, subsequently File 2 will be clicked

on to bring up the .7z file.

There are a lot of details in this route, but highly effective for your purpose.

                                        Please review and consider.

                                        Looking forward to good news.

I had just installed P 7.0 on my old XP machine and it crapped out with the same message.

Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.   The only option is a “Radio Button” that says “OK”.

From your description it sounds like you received this error message while you were in a Premiere Elements 7 project rather than just trying to install or open a new project. Is that correct?

If that is the case, what did you have on the Timeline at the time of the crash - formats and duration? Were you doing any particular editing

activity - apply effects, transitions, creating titles?

Let us start here and then decide what next.

                                            Thanks. Do not give up.

                                                The message is as follows:

The installation process has encountered an error while installing Shared Technologies. Please restart your system and try again.

This is probably the 20th time I have rebooted. AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

                                                  Good news and bad news.

The Shared Technology error is a nuisance that targets essentially all versions of Premiere Elements on any

computer. Shared Technology troubleshooting is a project onto itself.

The Shared Technology error has hit me also from time to time. What has worked for be the last 2 or 3 times....

                                                  With Premiere Elements closed

                                                  1. Go to

                                                  Local Disc C

                                                  Program Files (x86)

                                                  Common Files

and, in the Adobe Folder, you will find a folder named OOBE.

Rename the OOBE Folder...from OOBE to OLDOOBE.

Then close out of there, and try to install Premiere Elements again.

Add On...I can help you only in the thread format.
