Casey Pegram Dec 13, 2013 10:38 AM (in response to JSS1138)YES! I'm getting this with AVCHD media (GH2 files) on OS X 10.9.
On headphones it's quite horrible!

4. Re: Noisy Transitions
Peter J Kovacs Dec 13, 2013 11:22 AM (in response to JSS1138)Yeah, it's happening to me as well... here's a few details of my obersations:
This only happens when I play the timeline within Premiere.
The problem doesn't happen if...
- I just drag the cursor to scrub across it
- the clip is exported
- another audio clip is right above it that also has an audio transition (overlapping audio transitions)
Here's a few more things I tried which didn't fix it...
- emptying the Media Cache and Media Cache Files folders
- deleting the Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files folder
- different audio files
- restarted the Mac
- using different audio transitions (contant gain, contant power, exponential fade)

5. Re: Noisy Transitions
Kindari Dec 13, 2013 11:28 AM (in response to JSS1138)Also experiencing this with wav files, 16bit/44k and 24bit/48k (haven't tried others). This also affects my renders, but manifests with a grinding stutter sound rather than the buzz usually.
Also, this has started causing audio to totally mute after a buzz. I have a Dynamics audio affect applied with the compressor and limiter sections enabled. The master meter (Audio Track Mixer panel) reads about -295 dB. Clicking to bypass "AGOn/Off" (even though it is already disabled in the Dynamics effect's interface) gives me audio again, but it doesn't remove the buzzes.
I can also get audio back by disabling the Limiter, either from the dropdown control on the Audio Track Mixer panel or by openning the effect's settings panel and unchecking the box for the limiter. This also doesn't remove the buzzes, but they do seem to be amplified by the compressor's MakeUp setting, so I'm guessing the buzz is added before it hits that part of the signal chain.
I don't know how much they are connected, but I hope this helps.

6. Re: Noisy Transitions
EricMunch Dec 13, 2013 11:57 AM (in response to Kindari)Same issues here with loud digital buzz on audio transitions (hits 0db on the master meter). This only seems to happen when playing from before the start of the clip, and does not seem to affect crossfades between clips. Removing the crossfade gets rid of the noise.
Using ProRes LT 23.976 1080p media.
The noise also carries through to any exports (also ProRes LT), although the effect is much quieter.
Thanks!

7. Re: Noisy Transitions
Nick_HE Dec 13, 2013 2:41 PM (in response to EricMunch)Recommendation: try to avoid encountering this bug while wearing in-ear headphones. It is uncomfortable.
Was excited that 7.2 finally fixed some showstopper 7.1 bugs, but here we go again. Maybe CC can go to some sort of stable/beta/nightly release structure or something? I feel like we're never going to get a stable version if Adobe is relying on insufficient internal QA resources. Every fix breaks something else.
</rant> (sorry)
Just encountered it on my first sequence in 7.2:
- An Audio Extracted clip (48khz 32-bit mono)
- 48Khz iframe MPEG sequence
- It does appear in the Audio Track Mixer meters and regular Audio Meter
- Happens consistently in playback, but does not happen in the export
OSX 10.8.5
Premiere 7.2.0 (46)
Edit: Added note that glitch does not make it to the Export stage, just playback

9. Re: Noisy Transitions
Elliott B. Dec 13, 2013 1:31 PM (in response to Ann Bens)I also have this problem. I'm using uncompressed audio from Sony FS700 .MTS clips. It happens even with audio clips which are disabled in the timeline.

10. Re: Noisy Transitions
DMH79 Dec 13, 2013 2:16 PM (in response to petergaraway)Count me in. On an 2011 iMac editing AVCHD footage with lots of cross dissolve transitions and exponential fades (and maybe a few constant power fades?) I was just scrubbing through the timeline when that noise hit. Lasted about 3 seconds. It was an old project and it scared the crap out of my 2 year old who was in the room so I closed the project and I'm not going back.

JSS1138 Dec 13, 2013 4:06 PM (in response to jevideo)Instead of going backwards, just keyframe the volume.

13. Re: Noisy Transitions
Peter J Kovacs Dec 13, 2013 4:49 PM (in response to jevideo)There may be no need... my audio transitions sound fine when I exported it to a final file. It's just broken when you try play/preview the timeline within Premiere.
Another way I got around this problem is to duplicate the audio track and then just mute the upper copy. I found that the problem doesn't happen if there's two audio transitions stacked.
Of course, your results may differ from mine... hope it helps.

17. Re: Noisy Transitions
EricMunch Dec 13, 2013 5:18 PM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)Just want to chime in again and say that the audio noises are most definitely making their way to the exports. They sound different than on playback - some are total dropouts, some sounds like stutters/garbles, etc. I haven't been able to get a clean export without removing all audio transitions.
My machine:
Mac Pro 5,1 Mid 2010
Mavericks 10.9
All media ProRes (LT)

Elliott B. Dec 13, 2013 6:36 PM (in response to PierreLouisBeranek)Would it be possible to write a script that converts all audio transitions to keyframes?

20. Re: Noisy Transitions
JSS1138 Dec 14, 2013 8:04 AM (in response to Elliott B.)I haven't yet seen this apply to all transitions, only to those at the head of a clip. Transitions between or at the end of clips seem to be fine.
-
21. Re: Noisy Transitions
KevinDooley Dec 14, 2013 11:33 AM (in response to jevideo)No offense, but wouldn't it just be easier to keyframe tranisitions at the heads of clips rather than downgrading the software? I too am having the issue with transitions, but manual keyframes are working perfectly.
-
22. Re: Noisy Transitions
Elliott B. Dec 14, 2013 4:43 PM (in response to KevinDooley)I have been hearing these noises in the exports too, although it's not nearly as loud as it is in the timeline.
Another workaround is to sent the whole sequence to Audition and back. Since I was finished with the edit, that was easier than manually keyframing all the transitions in a long sequence.
-
23. Re: Noisy Transitions
Kindari Dec 14, 2013 4:57 PM (in response to KevinDooley)It might be easier for a few transitions, but some people may have a large number of them across several projects and sequences.
In a more broad sense, imagine this were a bug that had no work around. There should be a way to roll back to (or reinstall) old versions when these kinds of issues happen.

Xebedie Dec 15, 2013 1:00 AM (in response to petergaraway)Peter - please undertsand that this is far more than an "inconveniecne"? When working to tight high stakes deadliens, things like not being able to play back audio will KILL your project. We have deafening buzz sounds every 7 seconds or so in our project, on a brand new mac. Whats galling is that there seems to be no way to roll back to a previous version without this bug, or install an older version of the softrware on new machienes (we have found ourselves here having upgraded the macs). So how are we to continue cutting our fetaure (which we're screening in 2 days) using Adobe software? Or have I missed something? We are actually paying for what claims to be a professional solution here - we're not here to test out your buggy software. Sorry but this is really frustrating and not the first MAJOR problem we have experienced with the creative cloud concept. Can you at least tell us when you're going to fix it?

Xebedie Dec 15, 2013 2:28 AM (in response to Ann Bens)Thats a fantastic help Ann, thanks.
So to keep editing without the audio glitch would we roll back to 7.1 - or 7.0? This worked for you?

29. Re: Noisy Transitions
Ann Bens Dec 15, 2013 2:43 AM (in response to Xebedie)This audio transition bug is not a big deal for me (I am not in the business, no deadline)
I went back to 7.01 as I encountered the BD export bug in 7.1.

CraigTonkin Dec 15, 2013 3:47 AM (in response to Xebedie)This needs ro be rectified, ASAP. Those of us who rely on Adobe product to make a living don't want to be apologising to our clients because of an embarrassing glitch in your software. I really hope an update rolls out within days to address this.

32. Re: Noisy Transitions
iceblueorbitz Dec 15, 2013 11:48 AM (in response to JSS1138)Just want to share my specs if it helps:
Premiere Pro 7.2.0 (46) *updated today 12/15/13*
Mac Pro 5,1 12-core 2.66 26GB RAM
OSX 10.9
Timeline settings I noticed problem - 1080p 23.98 R3D 48kHz Audio
Noticed using ANY audio transitions on the 48kHz WAV files provided by sound department form a Audio Devices 744T
I agree with other posts, this is a VERY critical bug that renders this application almost useless at the moment for any critical work, and basically unbearable for even casual editing. Hope Adobe sees this and finds a fix quickly!

JSS1138 Dec 15, 2013 1:47 PM (in response to Xebedie)So how are we to continue cutting our fetaure

34. Re: Noisy Transitions
Xebedie Dec 15, 2013 3:31 PM (in response to JSS1138)Thanks, but surely you're joking?
Our film consists of 5 project files, an average of 9+ audio tracks in use simultaniously, transitions roughly every 5 seconds or more - so Adobe's fix is for us to replace 337,500 transitions with keyframes?
I do hope the 7-10 day estimate is also a joke - seriously could not believe that Adobe would leave it that long while production companies around the world have to what - shut down? change platforms? explain to clients / directors that it's somone elses fault that contractual deadlines will not be met? How is this "professional" software by any streatch of the imagination? Frankly, the lack of urgent attention to this by Adobe shows utter contempt for their customers.

pls adobe FIX it!

37. Re: Noisy Transitions
PierreLouisBeranek Dec 16, 2013 5:44 AM (in response to felix-heimspiel)I'm glad I checked these forums for info about the 7.2 update before going ahead with it! I'll be waiting until this problem gets fixed before updating. Although one would hope that such caution wouldn't be necessary, reality unfortunately proves otherwise, with features being broken or lost with every update. Two steps forward, one step back. It seems like half of the Feature Requests I send are for Adobe to undo new 'features' they introduce that actually make things worse!

JSS1138 Dec 16, 2013 9:29 AM (in response to Xebedie)Adobe's fix is for us to replace 337,500 transitions with keyframes?
Again, the error only seems to apply to transitions at the start of a clip. Transitions between and at the end of clips are not affected.

39. Re: Noisy Transitions
jevideo Dec 16, 2013 11:37 AM (in response to JSS1138)Went back to 7.1. Thanks Ann for the links. Just uninstall 7.2 and reinstall 7.01. Update until your satisfied.
Wish I would of got this on friday. Had to manually keyframe hundreds of transitions. At least the client got it though.
