1. Re: Best video format for embedded metadata
Dan Wolfe Dec 15, 2013 12:45 PM (in response to Dan Wolfe)no one has any input? after some testing I think I'm gonna go with transcoding all formats to ProRes. Quicktime seems to handle embedded metadata pretty well, and that way I'll also be able to hand off projects & media to FCP7 editors as well.

shooternz Dec 15, 2013 1:31 PM (in response to Dan Wolfe)Are you adding extra metadata to your source files?
If not ...why transcode at all?

3. Re: Best video format for embedded metadata
Dan Wolfe Dec 16, 2013 9:21 AM (in response to shooternz)I am adding extra metadata. also, when I rename files during ingest in prelude, AVCHD files aren't renamed, XMP sidecar files are generated with each MTS file. then, when I use Project Manager to hand off a project to another editor on PPro everything starts to get a little messy with media management. in addition, I can't pass media to a FCP7 editor this way. transcoding to ProRes out of the gate seems to solve both of these problems.
