    hexadecimal color

      I allow users to change the color of their buttons. However if they select a color that is too light, the white text becomes unreadable. Therefore I need a way to detect if a color is past a certain pont of lightness as it were.
      In the same way that I can find the opposite of a color by
      oppColor=(0xFFFFFF)-origColor;
      1/ is there a way to find if a color is past a certain shade, and therefore I can change the text to black.
      2/ Also Is there a way to find a color that is 25% darker than another color?
      thanks to any responders. J
