help with our collaborative ID workflow

      Hello all,

I'm wondering if there is a better (more efficient) way to do our quarterly magazines. We're re-examining how we do things now that we are also doing DPS publications and it has been a challenge because of how we've done our print magazines for years.

We have a design staff and we each start with an InDesign file with our standard style sheets and master pages. We all work on our individual feature articles and once we are pretty polished, the pages all get combined into a "master" InDesign file of the entire 64 page magazine. But this seems like a dated workflow--seems like there should be a better way.

Obviously, the biggest hurdle is that we all cannot simply collaborate on one InDesign file--it lives on the server and only one designer can have it open at any one time.

Am I missing something? Is there some way we can continue to "divide and conquer" and be efficient at the same time?
