Can you be more specific - especially what you mean by 'the backup'? Perhaps post a screenshot explaining the problem you're facing.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running on?
By backup can we assume that you are referring to the program's AutoSave feature? See Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoSave.
You do not have to use AutoSave to work in Premiere Elements. But it is a safety net if your system is not always stable and you have invested a lot of time and energy into a project. If you leave it turned off, as an alternative you could try to remember to save the project more often while you have it open.
