Wil Renczes Dec 20, 2013 8:32 PM (in response to ___Peter___)Hi Peter,
Can you upload the "xxxxx-1080p-XDCAMHD50PAL.mxf" clip somewhere for me to take a look?
Thanks,
Wil

Maybe I can reproduce a democlip with the problem ...

JSS1138 Dec 21, 2013 2:52 PM (in response to ___Peter___)Export a masterfile from Premiere via Mediaencoder as XDCAM OP1a 1080p5025fps.
From that I generate various versions for my clientst directly in MediaEncoder.
That's not the best work flow. Your 'Master' is introducing a generational loss. You should be using something higher quality for this, like lossless, DNxHD, or even AVC-I.
This doesn't mean I think Adobe should not correct any issues here, just that there is a better way to do the job which may not have the error.

___Peter___ Dec 22, 2013 1:43 AM (in response to JSS1138)Yes, I think you're right. I once choose that format to get a kind of "in house standard" for all master files. I think XDCAM is a good format and widely used.
I am not really aware of DNxHD beeing now in Premiere and never used AVC-I. Are those as long-living as a Sony Broadcast format ?
But like you said: Besides that deliberations - That bug must be fixed soon. I mean XDCAM ?!? it's pretty important for an editing application.
However: Please Adobe fix that soon!

alan@kivu.com Jan 1, 2014 7:11 PM (in response to ___Peter___)I have the same problem in PPro CC version 7.2.1 each time I attempt to use a timelapse mxf file recorded using a nanoflash. I have so far not had any problems using nanoflash mxf files in ppro cc except for timelapse files. These same timelapse files work fine in PPro CS5 and CS5.5, so the problem is not with the files, it is with PPro CC and also Prelude CC. I also did a conversion to MOV using a third party converter and the mov files are fine in PProCC but the converter I used lost a lot of information so that is not a solution, but it does indicate the problem is not with the files.
It seems this is also a problem in AE CC as well according to other members in this same series of forums.
I hope by now someone has come up with a solution that works every single time. Otherwise PPro CC is not a useable program for professionals.

AE_VideoTeam Jan 2, 2014 12:50 PM (in response to ___Peter___)My team and I have encountered the same red frame issues, even though we have the latest PPro version, and have cleared the caches.
After much in house troubleshooting, the issue seems to be with the sequence itself and not the clip. We copy & pasted an entire sequence into another and there were no longer any red frames. It's a temporay fix until the Adobe team comes through with a permanent one.

Yes, and higher quality. Much better for use as a Master to create other versions.

alan@kivu.com Jan 16, 2014 11:18 AM (in response to LFedit)According to Mike Mapes at Adobe, the developers are working on a fix for the 7.2.2 version but he did not know when that version might come out - sounds like months away. In the meantime, if you are on a PC, I found that Black Magic Da Vinci Resolve Lite (a colour grading software) that is a free download has a nifty transcoder that maintains the quality level. I transcoded to .mov and the resulting files decoded easily in Premiere Pro CC. It is a pain in the butt and should not require third party transcoders to be workable. I believe Mac-specific transcoders are also available but Da Vinci is available for Mac as well.

Mark Mapes Jan 16, 2014 11:52 AM (in response to alan@kivu.com)If you're referring to me, Alan, then I can assure you I've made no reference here to a 7.2.2 release. Nor have I seen any such references by any colleagues--or by my evil, imaginary twin Mike.
As I note in this thread, a red frame is a symptom of a bug, and a number of root causes can manifest as a red frame.
In the case of the clip Alan sent us, the bug was specific to time-lapse content recorded by certain third-party hardware, and the cause was a curveball of sorts in the header: an I-Frame-only stream identified as a LongGOP.

Luke Howell Jan 16, 2014 2:11 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)We are having the same issue at our shop. We have 8 suites, all are experiencing red flashes ever since we upgraded to 7.2.1.
All the systems are Win7, and we've encountered red flashes with XDCam 35, XDCam 422 and Mpeg4 clips. We haven't been to develop a workaround as the flashes occur in very inconsistent patterns.
For example, just a moment ago an editor called me in because he was getting red flashes on his exports. We went to his timeline, and the timeline was showing red flashes as well. We deleted the clip (an XDCam 422 clip) from the bin, and re-imported it. It played in the viewer fine with no flashes. We put it on the timeline and again it played fine. We exported the sequence directly out of Premiere as an XDCam 422 clip (delivery format needed for the client) and the exported file contained red flashes. We went back to the timeline and it had red flashes, and the clip in question had red flashes when viewed directly! WTF?!
So we deleted the clip again, and re-imported it. Played fine with no red flashes. Put it on the timeline - no red flashes. This time we exported the timeline as an AVC-I 100, and the exported file had no flashes. As a test we went back and exported the timeline again as XDCam 422...and red flashes on the exported file, AND the timeline and original clip had red-flashes as well.
Could it be something with XDCam and/or MPEG compressed clips in general? We've only done one more test with AVC-I (which was successful) but I'm not confident enough yet to say that exporting as AVC-I is a consistent workaround.

DLubbers Mar 3, 2014 1:25 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)When can we excpect a solution? I only have the problem when I go from speedgrade to premiere. (windows 7)
