Filters in CS6. What am I doing wrong?

I am new to Photoshop. Iv'e been watching CS6 tutorials and have been experimenting with filters. I am shooting my pictures in RAW and some pictures I can apply filters while others I dont even have the option to open filters. Im shure its something I am doing but I cant figure it out. Can some one help?

Sometimes filters aren't available because of the bit depth of the image. For those images that the filters aren't showing up for, go to Images>Mode>check to see what the bit depth is (8 or 16). If 16 some filters won't be available. If that is the case, choose 8 and then try the filters. Hope this might help.
