1. Re: how do i change my video format in adobe premiere elements 12?
Steve Grisetti Jan 3, 2014 6:55 AM (in response to riogrande)You will not be able to play either a MP4 or AVCHD in your DVD player.
Your DVD player plays DVDs.
To create a DVD from your movie, use Publish & Share/Disc and select the DVD option.

3. Re: how do i change my video format in adobe premiere elements 12?
Steve Grisetti Jan 3, 2014 7:11 AM (in response to riogrande)It could be that your DVD player does not play home-burned DVDs well. Or it could be that you are using a poor brand of DVDs, like Memorex.
But the problem is most likely not with the software, based on your description. If you put the disc in your computer's DVD player, it plays just fine, right?

4. Re: how do i change my video format in adobe premiere elements 12?
Bill Hunt Jan 3, 2014 7:14 AM (in response to riogrande)riogrande,
Two questions, please:
- What brand of blank DVD media did you use on the DVD-Video, that is causing an issue?
- Is it correct that you Timeline is about 4 hours in Duration? If so, one more question: Did you burn that to a DVD-5 (Single Layer - 120 min. blank DVD), or to a DVD-9 (Double Layer - 240 min. blank DVD)?
The reasons that I ask those questions is that the brand of blank DVD media CAN make a big difference in playability. Memorex, recent TDK, recent Ritek and all "store brands" should be avoided. I recommend Falcon Pro, Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden blank media, and for DL discs, use only Verbatim.
If you are Transcoding a 4 hour Timeline to a DVD-5, the bit-rate will be extremely low, and quality WILL suffer. A 4 hour Timeline will barely fit onto a DVD-9, with acceptable quality.
Good luck,
Hunt

riogrande Jan 3, 2014 7:30 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)I used verbatim dvd+rdl 240 min and yes my timeline is about 4 hours duration and yes not only it freezes but it also has a really bad quality I took my video on a sony xn30 a really profecional camrecorder and it seemed like i was taking a relly good video quality but ones i put it in the timeline the resolution is bad and the video seems blurry plus when i burn it it freezes

riogrande Jan 3, 2014 7:33 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)yes but not all of them because i have already burned about 8 dvd and some of them play fine on my computer and others dont but they all play bad on my dvd player and i already got a new dvd player and im still having that issue

7. Re: how do i change my video format in adobe premiere elements 12?
Bill Hunt Jan 3, 2014 7:37 AM (in response to riogrande)riogrande,
Thank you for that information. The Verbatim DL (DVD-9) blank media is about as good as it gets. The 4 hour timeline will have the Bit-Rate lowered a bit, but that is to fit the Timeline onto the DVD-9, so there is not much that can be done there.
Is it correct that you used the setting (in Publish+Share to Burn Disc) "Fit Contents to Space?" If not, which Quality setting (Bit-Rate) did you choose?
Good luck,
Hunt

riogrande Jan 3, 2014 12:26 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)yes i did put publish+share to burn disk and i did put fit contents to space..should i UNMARK fit contents to space and increse the quality MORE?

9. Re: how do i change my video format in adobe premiere elements 12?
Bill Hunt Jan 3, 2014 12:31 PM (in response to riogrande)should i UNMARK fit contents to space and increse the quality MORE?
That depends. When you Unmark that, what is shown as the Quality?
Much depends on the exact Duration of your Timeline, and the space on the blank disc, so one might have to drop the quality down, to fit the contents. A little change in Bit-Rate will never likely be seen/noticed, but if that has to come down much, then the quality will likely suffer.
Good luck,
Hunt

10. Re: how do i change my video format in adobe premiere elements 12?
riogrande Jan 3, 2014 1:04 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)oh ok and im sorry to ask this but i have a doubt is verbatim DVD+R DL the same as DL (DVD-9)? Oh and do you think that i might be having this trouble because my files are mts do u think i should convert them in something else? oh and one more question should i render my project before burning it and how can i do that?

11. Re: how do i change my video format in adobe premiere elements 12?
Bill Hunt Jan 6, 2014 8:40 AM (in response to riogrande)The Verbatim DL is a DVD-9.
PrE will down-rez/convert your HD MTS files, for authoring to DVD. Note: your DVD-Video will be 720 x 480 (NTSC), so it will NOT be HD, like the original files. They will be SD (Standard Def), by the DVD-Video specs.
Do not try to compare your HD material with the DVD-Video, to judge quality - it WILL be reduced.
To get an idea of the differences in resolution, between HD materail (several allowed versions), and DVD, see this image:
The best that one can get with DVD-Video, is to play that back through a DVD player, or BD player, that has up-rezzing chips, dedicated to do the math, and up-rez. However, even with those chips, the output to an HD TV will never be full HD quality, as one would get with a BD (Blu-ray Disc).
Good luck,
Hunt
