Aldus Freehand 3.1 on Windows 7

    whiteriver23 Community Member

I recently lost my old harddrive with Aldus Freehand 3.1. Now I have Windows 7 64 bit on a new computer. I have all the installation floppys for Freehand 3.1, my question is, how do I go about getting an old 16 bit program installed and running on the new computer.

      Thanks

JP, I don't know if you had posted this originally to the FreeHandForum.org but I'll answer with the same info I gave there.

Search for a copy of WIN FreeHand 3.1 download on this abandonware site:

          http://vetusware.com/download/FreeHand%203.1%20ES/?id=7005

This download would get you around needing a floppy drive and make installation much easier. I don't think you'll need instructions beyond following the install program and using your serial #.

I can't say how it will run on Win 7—since I'm on a Mac—but I do have FH3.1 on my computer (using SheepShaver) and used a Mac abandonware site to get it, even though I own the original floppies. Works great.

            Thanks Mark,

I downloaded from the site but, when I tried to open that file on my computer my Malwarebytes antivirus program quarantined it as a PUP.optonal so, now I'm a little gun shy about running it!
