Somehow one of our InDesign CS6 documents thinks that it is set up for datamerge. This means that the associated InCopy files cannot be opened in InCopy because they want the datamerge plugin. InCopy CS6 then crashes.
I looked at the datamerge panel and it does not show any sign of there being a merge. I do not know how ID thinks a merge was set up.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
Have you tried exporting it to .idml and reopening that?
I am not sure why but the problem resolved itself. We had seen the problem on two Macs. What is really strange is that on opening the InCopy document I was getting multiple warnings about missing plugins and the warnings named a document different from the one I was opening (and they were not attached to the same layout). It finally opened OK on my Mac, I went to the editor and it opened without any warnings. Strange.
This is in a K4 environment (K4 6.4.x). Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but felt it was worth mentioning.
Very strange but people are able to work on this document in InCopy again.
