I am building a book in ID CS6. My TOC is in a front matter file. When I go to update my TOC, it only updates through chapter 9, even through there are 11 chapters. When I open the TOC in story editor mode, it says there is overset text and shows the remainder of the chapters for the TOC. However, when I try and extend the text box, nothing happens. I checked the file for chapter 9 and do not see anything different from the other files. I have already rebuilt this book once becasue the templates and such got all screwy. I'd prefer not to rebuild it again.
It looks like the frame might be on the master page.
Although that doesn't actually make a lot of sense if you can select the text to show in story editor. Perhaps that dotted outline is a group and you need to select just the text frame.
It turns out that the problem was being caused by the line indents. I had the line set at 1p0 and -1p0 to leave space for the chapter number. However, when the number became 2 digets (10, 11, etc.) the text was forced to the tab mark, made it to wide for the text box and therefore overset. I am not sure why it didn't just go to a new line, but by increasing the indent a bit, the text showed up.
