As far as I know, the Organizer can not read or interpret metadata from the Windows Photo Gallery.
Thanks, Steve. It seems that after spending many hours tagging videos and photos in Photo Gallery, you can't move the files anywhere else without losing the metadata.
So, do you happen to know if Organizer suffers from the same limitation?
You can add metadata to a file, and that rides with the file no matter where it goes.
But most of the metadata you add in the Organizer (keyword tags, people, places, events, locations) are only useful and readable by the Elements Organizer.
OK. I think we're getting close to the answer.
The reason I'm asking about this is because for Photo Gallery, media files can NEVER be moved without losing all database metadata. I'm sorry I didn't know this when I started with Photo Gallery and I think I've learned an important lesson: Be sure you can move your work BEFORE you start.
So, to clarify Organizer's behavior, let me ask the question another way. Let's say that in a few years, after I've added tags, people, places, etc. to hundreds of media files in Organizer, I decide to get a new PC. When I move all that stuff to my new petabyte drive on the new PC, do we know if Premiere Elements Organizer on the new PC would be able to read the original Organizer's metadata?
I don't know. We'll have to wait for someone with more experience with Organizer catalogs to answer.
Or you can post to the Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements Community Forum at http://Muvipix.com. A lot of very knowledgeable people there, and you will get an answer quickly.
