Is there a more efficient way of showing keyframes in the timeline?

Yesterday I was creating a mask and recording keyframes (auto) as I went.

I unchecked auto, and scrubbed through the timeline and saw that everything was recorded. However, in order for me to see the actual keyframes I had to click on the keyframe icon to the right of auto.

Is this working as designed? Or am I following the wrong steps?

Again, my changes are being recorded, but I cannot see the keyframes unless I choose the icon.

However, that icon when hovering over it (and to be fair, I am not in front of my computer), either mentions that it will set a keyframe or toggle interpolation - nothing about visibility.

If this is just a bug, I will submit a ticket for it.
