Start by downloading and installing the CS5.5 update to version 7.5.3 and try again (after emptying the InDesign Recovery folder in your user library -- it's a hidden folder, so see Replace Your Preferences for where it lives [same folder as InDesignSaved Data file]).
If after that it still crashes, check your fonts. This is text-related.
Thank you Peter,
I did as you suggested. It didn't work, but I did the 'automatic way' by hold down the shift+ctrl+cmd+opt when I launched the program. It seems to work, so now I keep my fingers crossed.
However, you said this it is text-related. Where will I check my fonts?
Thanks for quick respons and helping out!
Ok, thanks a lot.
I am having this problem as well. How do you replace your preferences if it won't open?
Read the link... in my first response.
I did read the link....the auto version wasnt working b/c it never opened and I don't get those path options to find the files on my computer.
From the other thread we already know it isn't a prefs problem in your case, so it's moot, but if the keyboard method didn't work it's because you were not fast enough on the keys. The folders are hidden on newer versions of OSX, so see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion for instructions on how to find them.
Can someone please help? I've followed your advice per renaming the preferences and cache files but I still get this error for In Design 5.5. Can someone please be of help?

You really need to update the software to the 7.5.3 version as per Peter in the first reply. The log file you just posted still shows a non-updated version of the application.
Please, in future put crash report on Pastebin.com or some other external server and provide a link so we keep the forum navigable. I've trimmed all but the pertinent info from your post.
In additiion to waht Larry said, looking at the crash report the problem is clearly type related, and the Univers Roman font is loaded into virtual memory near the crash location, so dollars to donuts it's damaged and should be reinstalled.
