Hi I'm using premiere elements 11 to edit AVI video footage that i shot from my DSLR. I have never had a problem importing AVI files into premiere until i upgraded to Mavericks on my IMAC. Now every time i try to import an AVI file i get an error message / this file is unsupported or not recognized. My AVI files won't work with quicktime either. Are there any solutions out there? Thank you!
AVI is a wrapper... what is inside the wrapper?
Codec & Format information, read both links in reply #1 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1270588
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

John is right. The AVI you are trying to edit is not a standard editable DV-AVI.
Most likely your camera shoots in MJPEG-AVI or another format that can be troublesome for most video editors.
Open your AVI in MediaInfo (a free download) and post to this forum the resolution, frame rate and audio and video codec it lists.
