This is, I suspect, a problem with my image characteristics within AI.
Here is the image. I am puzzled by how it behaves when imported to AE from AI.There are 16 layers in AI but 52 when imported to AE and converted to a shape layer.
The layer named lion body, which I suspect contains the extra 36 layers, is invisible in AE as soon as I "Create shapes from vector layer", although there seem to be many paths represented in it.
Any ideas on how to get this image prepped for use within AE? Do I need to re-trace it within AE? Within AI? to create a closed image?
I can't download your image due to restrictions on the network where I work, but from the look of things, you've got an awful lot of vector shapes happening. I would suggest you create (if one isn't already there) one, main outline of the lion. Extrude that and then use the image as it is as a texture for the face of your extrusion. All of that black is just shading and if you try to extrude it, it'll look pretty bad and weird.
Will do and thanks for the speedy input.
