After upgrading to OS X 10.9 I have not been able to sucessfully install Flash Player on my iMac.  I am able to download and mount the installation disk image but when the installation progress bar is at about 60%, the install fails and I get the "Error: Unable to proceed with the installation" window.

What I have done so far:

  • Attempted to install via browser at get.adobe.com/flashplayer/     -  error message as mentioned above
  • Downloaded and ran the Flash Player uninstaller package per helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html
    • Checked for and, if present, removed:
      • Flash Player plugins from Library
      • Cache files
      • Preference files
      • Flash Player folder from Application Support
    • Emptied trash
    • Restarted iMac prior to installation
    • Verified via Safari browser that Flash Player was not installed.  Flash installed and runs file in Google Chrome version 34.0.1797.2
  • Ran Flash Player installer after quitting all browsers.     -  error message as mentioned above
  • Uninstalled Flash Player (as above)
  • Selected Install_Adobe_Flash_Player.app icon, "Show Package Contents", navigated Contents>MacOS, and ran Install_Adobe_Flash_Player     - error message as mentioned above

I'm able to use Google Chrome for my occasional Flash needs, but I'd like to get Flash Player back on my iMac.  Any ideas, suggestions?

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Chrome has its own proprietary plugin. It works when the standard one won't.

Bypass the "downloader/installer"...

Use the FULL offline installer Flash Player (Mac OS X)

Thanks Mike,

I understood Chrome's functionality, but couldn't get my mind around the install issue.  The FULL offline installer was the answer.

Again, thanks.
